Modern slavery in estates

malaysianinsider | Recent news reports claimed that there were at least five forced labour cases in Negeri Sembilan estates but only three made it to the court due to the lack of evidence.

Absence of crucial evidence like the birth certificate that could verify the victims as Malaysian citizens had made the cases failed to ‘hold water’ in the courts of justice, said the English newspaper.

Incidents of forced labour happened when unscrupulous contractors or agents took the advantage when recruiting workers for jobs in the estates.

The irony is that most of the victims were Malaysians, and not foreigners as initially believed, said Human Resources Minister Datuk Dr S. Subramaniam.

Poverty and illiteracy have further compounded this problem, resulting in what can be described as modern day slavery as what had been claimed to had occurred in an estate Sungai Senarut in Gemas, close to the Negeri Sembilan-Johor border.

Negri MB slams critics of Port Dickson projects

NST - Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan has lashed out at bloggers over development projects in Port Dickson. He said they should check their facts before criticising the projects which would benefit the people.
Mohamad had announced that the popular beach destination will have a duty-free zone and a new Customs, Immigration and Quarantine complex after a multi-million ringgit land reclamation project is completed.

The other tourist support facilities planned are a multi-purpose jetty, hotels, shopping complexes and office block.

Speaking to reporters after the state exco meeting today, Mohamad said the project would not destroy any part of the beach as the reclamation would be carried out near the town.

He said the public will have a fair chance to give their input.
The Seremban-Port Dickson train service proposal was another project which the state hoped would help boost tourist arrivals to the beach destination, he said. more...

Cukai tanah turun 50% di Negeri Sembilan ?

Apakah kerajaan Negeri Sembilan akan mengumumkan pelbagai insentif kepada rakyat Negrei Sembilan , turun cukai tanah , hapuskan kompaun, tiket percuma Liga Super, bas percuma ke Jelebu ?

Takkan kerajaan Negeri Sembilan 50 tahun Perikatan/BN/Umno perintah Negeri Sembilan tak boleh beri insentif pada rakyatnya ?

Takkan kerajaan setahun jagung di Kedah, Perak, Pulau Pinang dan Selangor yang diperintah Barisan Rakyat boleh beri pelbagai insentif ?

Kalau tak cukup duit, minta Dato Seri Mohammad Hassan arahkan semua wakil rakyat BN potong 30% gaji mereka seperti wakil rakyat PAS di Selangor, atau 50% seperti wakil rakyat PAS di DUN Paroi dalam Parlimen Rembau, tidak membuat pengubahsuaian pada rumah dan pejabat, tolak semua elaun untuk disalurkan untuk membantu rakyat Negeri Sembilan.
