HUNGER STRIKE NEXT MONDAY
Hindu rights chiefs to go on hunger strike if not freed
By Hazlin Hassan
newnation
The five Hindraf leaders arrested under a tough security law are planning to go on a week-long hunger strike beginning next Monday to protest against their detention.
The hunger strike will start at 7:30am on Jan 21. During that time, they will not eat any food and will only drink water, said their lawyer.
"They are doing it to protest against their detention and to garner support for their cause,' said lawyer Ram Karpal Singh.
The plan follows an appeal for release from the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chiefs, who have been jailed under the Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows for indefinite detention without trial.
The five - P Uthayakumar, R Kenghadharan, M Manoharan, V Ganapathy Rao and T Vasanthakumar - are being held at the Kamunting detention centre in Perak.
They were arrested on Dec 13 following a mass anti-government rally last November organised by their group.
The rights group is accused of having links to Sri Lanka's Tamil Tigers terrorist group, a charge that it denies.
The high-profile Hindraf case has attracted international attention and has highlighted the balancing act the government must perform, with a general election expected to be called in the next few months.
Observers say the government risks continued Indian anger if the Hindraf chiefs are not freed, but it could lose Malay votes for being soft on street 'troublemakers' if they are.
"What the government needs to do is to allow for the rule of law and give them a fair trial. If they cannot pinpoint a particular offence, they should be released," said political analyst Khoo Kay Peng.
Hindraf is seen negatively by Malays because it pushes for equal rights.
"The government has to be mindful that the Indian community is angered by (recent developments). If the government thinks the Indian votes are not important and that the Malay votes are sufficient, then it might not consider the release," political analyst P Ramasamy told The Straits Times.
The alleged terrorism charges against the five will be heard by the ISA advisory board on Feb 12 in Kamunting, after a scheduled hearing yesterday was postponed.
The board will hear appeals for release from the five, who are currently to be detained for two years.
The final outcome could depend on Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi. He is also the Internal Security Minister, who ultimately decides on ISA cases.

MIC Shooting, is Samy next?
ezrakong
After the killing of a well respected MIC government dude. I'm surprised Samy's still standing. Cuz we ain't like Vellu that much do we?
Considering his size, that would make it pretty hard for the shooter to miss. Samy, go back home and clean your toilet*, sorry, i mean make love to your wife, and drink wine. Who knows, you just might be next. But let's not think so positively.
Samy Vellu, look at the size of that tummy, You could fit a 2 ton bomb in there.
Be safe MIC dude/fat-so. Be as safe as your highways bridge projects.

Khir Toyol Advises Politicians To Be Honest!
Politicians saddled with debts or mixed up in immoral activities should not even think of offering themselves as candidates for the next general election.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo said individuals deep in debt or those who have dodged income tax should not offer themselves as candidates as their representation would be a liability to the Barisan Nasional.
“Selangor Barisan has conducted its own intelligence gathering and we have found that there are not many pertinent issues relating to the government. So, opposition parties will harp on trivial issues and will pounce on a candidate’s character or wrongdoings,” he said.
-
“Character assassination will be the opposition’s method to defeat a candidate. Knowing this, we want candidates to be frank and withdraw if they have problems and not put Barisan in jeopardy.
“Based on our indicators, we are confident of taking back the two DAP seats – Sungai Pinang and Sekinchan,” he said. Read the rest of this entry »

Mustahil semua dekat RTM buta kayu?

More Death threat for MIC man
kurasan
By NELSON BENJAMIN
JOHOR BARU: Just hours after the slaying of Tenggaroh assemblyman Datuk S. Krishnasamy on Friday, a senior national MIC leader received a call saying he was next on the hit list.
The leader has lodged a police report on the threat. It is learnt that the caller, who spoke in Tamil, just uttered a few words before hanging up. Police have started investigations into the case.
When contacted, the leader declined to comment.
Kuala Lumpur CID chief Senior Asst Comm (II) Ku Chin Wah only confirmed that police were investigating a report but declined to elaborate on the content or investigations.
It is learnt that police were not taking any threats made against politicians lightly, especially in the wake of Krishnasamy's murder.
It is also learnt that threats have been made against several senior MIC leaders. They have, however, not made police reports, dismissing this as an “occupational hazard”.
A source said the threats began after the private handphone numbers of the leaders were circulated via SMS.
On Saturday, MIC president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu said Krishnasamy had told him two weeks ago that he had received that death threats.
He reminded all MIC assemblymen and MPs to be extra cautious and also ordered for security to be beefed up at all MIC buildings.

By HANIM ADNAN
PETALING JAYA: Crude palm oil (CPO) futures on Malaysia Derivatives Exchange hit a new record of above RM3,400 per tonne yesterday on supply concern amid surging world demand for food and biodiesel consumption.

Simpati Seorang Perompak
pemudabukitkatil

Pembantu ahli politik bantu siasatan kes tembak Adun Tenggaroh

Flaring the gills that give the species its name, a frilled shark swims at Japan's Awashima Marine Park on Sunday, January 21, 2007. Sightings of living frilled sharks are rare, because the fish generally remain thousands of feet beneath the water's surface. Spotted by a fisher on January 21, this 5.3-foot (160-centimeter) shark was transferred to the marine park, where it was placed in a seawater pool. "We think it may have come to the surface because it was sick, or else it was weakened because it was in shallow waters," a park official told the Reuters news service. But the truth may never be known, since the "living fossil" died hours after it was caught. |more...|

Samy Vellu and family were involved in a conspiracy?
Malaysian Indian Congress protests conspiracy charge
(IANS) - The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) has denied the charge that its chief S. Samy Vellu and his family members were involved in a conspiracy leading to the gunning down of party leader S. Krishnasamy.
Krishnasamy, a member of the Tengorrah assembly, was shot dead Friday.
Vellu, who is the Malaysian works minister, and his son have been named as conspirators in photocopied notices handwritten in Bahasa Malaysia that were found pasted on the front door of the party's headquarters in Medan Kidd as well as on several food stalls and buildings nearby.
The notices named Maika Holdings CEO S. Vell Paari, MIC Youth chief S.A. Vikneswaran and one Loga, said to be from the MIC's Sungai Siput unit, as co-conspirators.
Written underneath the names of Vell Paari (spelt Vel Pari in the notice) and Vikneswaran were the words 'Pay Ringgit 3,000 can kill people easily', The New Straits Times reported Monday.
Calling himself 'Rakyat Malaysia', the author claimed that Vellu had given Krishnasamy a two-week deadline to withdraw from the general election or face serious consequences.
The author also claimed that he had been an MIC member for 18 years.
MIC's Perak unit chairman G. Rajoo lodged a police report Sunday after being alerted about the notices.
Rajoo said the notices were the work of those who were 'out to sully the party's name'.
'These are crazy allegations. The MIC does not do things like this. Somebody is trying to destroy the party's reputation,' he said.
Rajoo also dismissed the possibility that it was the work of an MIC member.
'No MIC member would do this. Samy Vellu is like a father to all MIC members. How can a son go against his father in such a way?'
The conspiracy charge came even as an unnamed MIC leader said he too had received a death threat the same day. He said the caller spoke briefly and hung up.
Threats have been made against several senior MIC leaders. They have, however, not logged police complaints, dismissing them as an 'occupational hazards', the newspaper said.
Malaysia's police chief, Inspector-General Musa Hassan, Sunday said Krishnasamy's killer had not been identified so far.
He refuted an earlier statement by Deputy Minister of Internal Security Mohamad Johari Baharum that the murder suspect had been identified.
Hasan said all they had was a description of the suspect and a photofit created from information gleaned from witnesses.

Zikir laga lutut akan didakwa
Oleh ZABRY MOHAMAD
SHAH ALAM 14 Jan.
|more...|

Poor Malaysia!
khookaypeng
Refer to Malaysiakini.com:
In the prologue to ‘Dr Mahathir's Selected Letters to World Leaders’, he writes: "It did not cross my mind that after I left (office in October 2003), there would be such a change as to make pleasing the prime minister more important than anything else."
Referring to the state of media freedom under the Abdullah administration, Mahathir writes that news in the mainstream media is “so censored and spun by spin doctors that the prime minister cannot possibly know the feelings and frustrations of the majority of the people ... fortunately for the government, Malaysians abhor violence when expressing their anger”.
He then notes: “So things must become much worse before they would show their (people's) true feelings in any way. In the meantime, the sycophants will continue to enjoy their day. Poor Malaysia!"
I am looking forward to read his newly launched book. It is interesting to read the prognosis of a former premier who is credited with much of our democratic destruction in the last two decades. |more...|

Gabem tu apa ke bendanya?

"“Kita ada mekanisme pemantauan. Dalam Gabem, kita wujudkan Jawatankuasa Pencegahan Ketirisan.
