Rafidah not sure about Azalina’s Wanita status

KUALA LUMPUR: With Wanita Umno maintaining that the wing is not represented in the new Cabinet, the status of Tourism Minister Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said is being questioned.

Is she a member of Wanita Umno? Azalina is certain she is, but Wanita Umno chief Datuk Seri Rafidah Aziz is unsure.

Rafidah, who was dropped from the new Cabinet line-up on Tuesday, said she had no idea which Umno branch Azalina belonged to.

“They can’t just come out from the sky. They must belong to a branch. Everyone has a branch or a division somewhere,” she told reporters after chairing a Wanita Umno exco meeting yesterday.

Azalina, the former Puteri Umno chief, countered that a Puteri member automatically became a Wanita member once she attained the Puteri age limit.

“I am the Penggerang Umno division deputy chief and as such the question of whether I am a Wanita member or not does not arise. I am an Umno member appointed as minister.

“According to the (Puteri) Constitution, Puteri members who have passed the age limit automatically become Wanita members,” she told reporters at her ministry yesterday.

The age limit for Puteri Umno chief is 40. It is 35 for other Puteri posts.

Rafidah, the former International Trade and Industry Minister, accepted that this was the case, but stressed that a Wanita member must be in a branch or division.

She said there was no need to make a stand on the issue because it was an individual matter.

“I do not jaga hal orang (am not a busybody). Individuals are not relevant. What is important is support for the party leadership,” she said.

Following the new Cabinet line-up announced by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, Wanita Umno expressed disappointment that no member from the wing had been appointed.

Azalina then said that she should be viewed as the Wanita Umno representative.

Azalina tersisih dari wanita UMNO, bukan Puteri UMNO dan bukan Putera UMNO. Kemana beliau harus pergi?

Ini berikutan berita tidak puas hati wanita UMNO tentang susanan kabinet yang dilakukan oleh Pak Lah seolah olah wanita UMNO tidak mempunyai taring kerana ketiadaan wanita UMNO di dalam kabinet tersebut. Lantas kemana harus Azalina pergi?

Hal ini sebenarnya tidak jelas dan ia menjadi salah satu bahan bualan baik dikalangan ahli UMNO sendiri.Bagi mereka yang tidak faham sangat tentang politik atau politiking ada bertanya mengapa Wanita UMNO bising-bising tidak ada wanita dalam kabinet.Bukankah Datuk Azalina Othman Said yang dulunya Menteri Belia dan Sukan dilantik sebagai Menteri Pelancongan dalam kabinet 2008 itu seorang wanita? Ini menjadi salah satu soalan yang ditujukan kepada Rafidah dalam sidang akhbarnya yang panas di Kementerian Perdagangan Antarabangsa dan Industri petang Rabu. Kenapa Azalina tidak dianggap sebagai sebahagian dari Wanita UMNO? Ini jawapan Rafidah, “ saya tak tahu sama dia ahli Wanita atau tidak…kena check Faridah ( katanya kepada Setiausaha Wanita UMNO Malaysia Datuk Faridah Abu Hassan yang berdiri di sebelahnya). Serentak dengan itu kedengaran suara dikalangan para ahli Exco Wanita UMNO Malaysia yang berdiri disampingnya diatas pentas sidang akhbar itu berkata, “ tak…tak…tak…tak.” Kata Ketua Wanita UMNO itu lagi, “ dia tak Puteri ( UMNO) lagi…I don’t know…saya tak tahu…tolong check dengan ibupejabat ( UMNO)…saya tak mahu cakap siapa member ke tidak…janganlah tanya saya.” Ditanya lagi bukankah dia seorang wanita jadi menteri? Jawab Rafidah yang enggan mengulas lanjut,sambil berkata “ tak payahhhh ( tanya)...

KOTA TINGGI: Rumour-mongering bloggers are cowards and a nuisance to Umno, said Pengerang MP Datuk Seri Azalina Othman.

Azalina, who is Youth and Sports Minister, said the opposition parties were using the blogs because they know that the Home Affairs Ministry was busy monitoring reports in the mainstream media.

“They think they can get away with it but it is not the case as they too are being monitored,”

Obviously, UMNO Datuk Seri Azalina Othman has ruffled even more feathers. Just because a few people accused her of being a lesbian, she has slammed ALL bloggers. Does she know how many thousand bloggers we have in Malaysia and how far is the reach of blogs?

Threatening us with the Home Affairs Ministry is not helping. The majority of us do not write anything seditious or sensitive. We are merely expressing our opinions, all within the law. So, please do not do what the Chinese referred as ’satu galah sapu semua’. Because we do not like to be labelled as cowards, pondans, beruks, gobloks, penipu, liars, unemployed women and etc etc when the matter only concerns you and your colleagues up there in the Menara gading UMNO.

Don’t forget that the powers is in our hands. We are nobodies. We are not politicians. But we are voters and you and your Barisan Nasional and UMNO especially sepangsa should watch out. YOU are all monitored.

Do you think we have forgotten about the screwdriver that cost hundreds of ringgit? Do you think we are not aware of those huge buildings which are not fully utilised? All those Rakan Muda projects that ate up a lot of money and yet, our sportsmen seem not to shine much lately?

Let me ask you. How do you think Hindraf can gather that huge number of people to walk in unity? How do you think BERSIH can achieve that big turnout? Do you think it is through word of mouth only? No. That’s the power of the internet.

So, slam harder and soon we will get more votes swing to PAS, PKR and DAP. Bloggers pantang dicabar.
