Samy Vellu dropped as BN candidate in next general election?
limkitsiang
Would Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu be dropped as a Barisan Nasional candidate in the next general election?
This question does not sound so far-fetched and unthinkable now as the query which I posed a fortnight ago as to whether Samy Vellu would back out of contest in Sungai Siput in the next general election during my two-day 14-place “whistlestop” campaign in Perak to highlight the DAP national general election theme of “Good Cops, Safe Malaysia”.
I had said on 12th January that Samy Vellu had become the lightning rod of the long-suppressed anger and frustration of the Malaysian Indians over their long-standing political, economic, educational, social, cultural and religious marginalization in the country and the very personification to the Malaysian Indian community of everything that is wrong and unfair about Barisan Nasional policies in the past three decades which have reduced them into the new underclass in Malaysia.
I said:
“If Samy Vellu re-contests in Sungai Siput in the next general election expected within 65 days, again leading the MIC election campaign, MIC parliamentary and state assembly candidates throughout the country will face massive rejection by the Malaysian Indian voters.
“Are MIC leaders trying to find a way to convey and convince Samy Vellu that the best service he can do to the MIC after being the MIC President and sole Malaysian Indian Minister for close to three decades is for him to fully absorb the anger and frustration of the Malaysian Indians at the MIC failure to check the marginalization of the Malaysian Indians by accepting full personal responsibility and not contesting in the next general election – thus saving the MIC slate of parliamentary and state assembly candidates from the full wrath of the Indian community in the polls?”
Undoubtedly, my statement a fortnight ago struck a chord in the MIC and there were moves behind-the-scene to prepare for an alternative leadership – which has angered Samy Vellu resulting in the reported sidelining of the MIC leaders concerned.
However, things are moving very fast in the Malaysian political scene with Parliament expected to be dissolved in the next one month – with the political fate of Samy Vellu moving one notch further, from whether he could be persuaded to step down as MIC President and withdraw as MIC parliamentary candidate in the next general election to whether he would be dropped as a Barisan Nasional candidate in the next general election.
The political weather is getting cold and wintry for Samy Vellu, not only among the Malaysian Indians since the watershed Hindraf rally in Kuala Lumpur on November 25 last year, but also in the Barisan Nasional coalition.
This was why Samy Vellu’s answer to my question a fortnight ago, announcing that he would definitely be contesting for the ninth time in Sungai Siput in the next general election, was received with such flak and hostility from UMNO.
Leading the attack on Samy Vellu was the Umno media, Utusan Malaysia, after carrying the front-page headline lead “‘Saya mesti bertanding’ – Kepala tidak ada mana boleh badan ada lagi – Samy Vellu” on Monday (28.1.08)
On the same day, Utusan Malaysia gave double swipe at Samy Vellu with a front-page cartoon “SENYUM KAMBING” and a critical column by Awang Selamat in “Bisik Bisik”.
The front-page cartoon carried the dialogue:
“Samy kata beliau mesti bertanding pilihan raya.”
“Jangan terlalu yakin.”
In the Bisik Bisik column, Awang Selamat said no doubt it was a practice in Barisan Nasional that component party leaders contest in the elections, but questioned if it was appropriate for the MIC president to make a brazen remark in such a tone.
The columnist said nevertheless “knowing Samy Vellu’s style,” the leader’s comments did not really come as a surprise.
“But ‘political talk’ concerning Samy Vellu was really hot last year. The issue now is when will there be a transition of power in MIC,” asked the columnist.
He pointed out that Umno, MCA and Gerakan have all seen the passing of the baton, but there were no such sign in MIC.
The broad hints that it is time for Samy to leave the political scene were spelt out the next day when Utusan Malaysia eported criticisms from the Umno Puteri leader, Datuk Noraini Ahmad, the Pahang Umno Youth leader, Datuk Khairuddin Yaakob and even the Umno National Vice President Datuk Seri Mohd Ali Rustam – indicating whether Samy Vellu can continue as MIC President and be a candidate for the ninth time in Sungai Siput may no longer be in the hands of MIC or MIC President and will have to be decided by Umno.
This is because Samy Vellu is increasingly regarded not only as a liability to MIC but also to Umno and Barisan Nasional. Who must bear the greatest responsibility for the sharp drop in the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi’s approval rating among the Indians which plunged from 82% in September 2007 to 38 % in December 2007 if not Samy Vellu?
Dare Samy Vellu publicly assert that he will definitely continue as MIC President and be a Barisan Nasional candidate in Sungai Siput in the next general election and that nobody and nothing in the world can stop him from doing so?

No more TAIPUSAM?
via sactyr.blogspot.com/
“Every year bus loads of devotees from this place and the surrounding estates will make the pilgrimage to Batu Caves. This year lots of people are asking us not to go after what the temple has done to the people who were there on Nov 25,” he said.
He said that calls for the boycott has come not just via the SMSes, but also from local community leaders and from fellow residents themselves.
“They talk openly about Hindraf and how Nadarajah and his committee members have failed to support the fight for Indian rights,” he added.
He admitted the local Indian population in his area and the surrounding areas - which have long been strong BN supporters - were angry with the manner Hindraf supporters and protesters were treated in both Batu Caves and Kuala Lumpur city centre on Nov 25.
“The feeling is that our political parties have failed us. Our temples have failed too. So why must we continue giving our support to them,” asked Sivalingam, a 43-year-old businessman.
Bloggers too have joined along in asking the people to boycott Batu Caves this year.
“Perhaps we should teach them (the Batu Caves committee) by going to Penang and Malacca for Thaipusam. Let them lose their revenue,” wrote a blogger.
“Public solidarity is paramount in this symbolic effort to achieve the objectives and show that it is not easily quelled. Let's hit them where it naturally hurts most - $$$,” wrote another blogger.

SAMY KANTOI DI CHENNAI
Samy cuba MEMBELIT ketika di dalam wawancara NDTV ......
Malaysian minister clarifies govt stand
via myhindurights
Malaysian Indian Congress leader and Public Works Department Minister Dato Samy Vellu is in Chennai to meet Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi to clarify his government’s stand on the Malaysian Tamils issue.
In an exclusive interview to NDTV the minister admits that his government has no concrete evidence to suggest that Hindraf (Hindu Rights Action Force), a coalition of 30 Hindu organisations in Malaysia, has links with the LTTE and explains his Cabinet colleague’s recent outburst against the Tamil Nadu chief minister.
Following is the excerpts from the interview:
NDTV: Do you have any evidence to back your government’s charge that the Hindraf has links with terrorists?
D S Vellu: Hindraf said they would fight like the Tigers, the way the Tigers are fighting in Sri Lanka. It was by Vedamurthy. After he talked like that, we did an investigation and it was felt that he may have gone there for training.
NDTV: Do you have evidence of this?
D S Vellu: No. It is our suspicion.
NDTV: The Tamils were protesting with pictures of Mahatma Gandhi. It was a peaceful demonstration.
D S Vellu: I don’t think it was peaceful. They started at 4 am and broke the temple door and shops and stoned policemen and broke the heads of 4 policemen. Is that called peace?
NDTV: Do you think the statement of your colleague in the Cabinet asking the Tamil Nadu CM to lay off, could have been avoided?
D S Vellu: When two or three opposition parties got up in Parliament and said the Tamil Nadu government wants the Indian government to interfere in Malaysia’s internal affairs, my colleague had answered them, and interference is different from using diplomatic channels.
NDTV: But the Tamil Nadu CM didn’t ask the Indian government to interfere.
D S Vellu: My colleague didn’t mean any disrespect.

AYOYO ...... SAMY
Hot !!! Prayers for the ‘late’ Samy Vellu
rockinsince86
The attacks and criticisms against MIC president S Samy Vellu have degenerated to macabre levels. While some might find this amusing, others have condemned it as being nothing more than meretricious politics.
For some time now, unidentified groups have been circulating, among others, notices on the veteran politician’s ‘16th-day funeral prayers’.
Rumours are also rife that such prayers were actually carried out in several locations but this could not be confirmed.
According to sources, there are numerous versions of the notice, which are also being forwarded via the internet.
These notices have also been posted at various places, with one calling the MIC president as the Indian community’s ‘No 1 Killer’.
The notice obtained by Malaysiakini is typical of the ‘16th-day funeral prayers’ invitation advertised in newspapers.
The notice, which contains a photograph of Samy Vellu flanked by oil lamps, urged the people to attend the event on Dec 25, 2007 near a riverbank in Batang Berjuntai.
Apart from using derogatory words to describe the MIC president, the notice also accused him or enriching his family members and friends while the Indian community suffered.
In view of this, the notice stated: “We call on the Tamil people of Batang Berjuntai to pray that his soul suffers in hell.”
The notice also stated that Samy Vellu had ‘passed away in embarrassment’ after witnessing the Nov 25 rally organised by the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf).

Samy Vellu’s failures glaring, demand for open debate
kula.blogsome
Of late we are getting invitations to speak in Temples all over the country which was the exclusive enclave of MIC leaders. To day Sdr.A.Sivanesan and I were the speakers at the Mariman Temple, Chemor
Total public donations was 879.35 and the organizers would deposit it in the Trust fund managed by the DAP which is at Maybank a/c514178145866. On 30th December 07 we announced the total amount collected since the launched of the trust fund on 20th December07 which totalled 27k
As minister and MIC leader for 29 years Samy Vellu has failed to uplift the Indian community and speak up for its rights despite enjoying government power and assess to resources. I challenge him to a debate to settle the issue. He has unashamedly lied to the Indian community knowing how deep is their poverty, marginalization and discrimination by the Umno-led Barisan National government.
He has failed miserably in all capacities. Samy has never and will never have the guts or ability to restore Indian Malaysians’ dignity, fundamental human rights and civil liberties within the context of the Federal Constitution. |more...|
