Tempoh Tender Nuri Dilanjut Kerana Permintaan Pembuat, Kata Najib
KUALA LUMPUR, 6 Feb (Bernama) "Kita dapat spesifikasi tapi pihak pembuat minta lanjutan sebab ianya amat rumit," katanya kepada pemberita selepas bermesyuarat dengan pengurusan Felda di sini hari ini.
Najib bagaimanapun tidak menyatakan bilangan syarikat yang sudah mengemukakan tender berkenaan bagi menggantikan Nuri atau nama asalnya Sikorsky buatan Amerika Syarikat untuk Tentera Udara Diraja Malaysia.
Semalam Panglima Angkatan Tentera Jen. Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal berkata tender itu sepatutnya tamat sebulan lepas tetapi dilanjutkan bagi membolehkan lebih banyak syarikat membuat bidaan.
Keputusan menamatkan perkhidmatan Nuri pada 2012 diambil setelah kerajaan menanggung kerugian RM86.7 juta akibat 15 nahas sejak penggunaannya pada tahun 1968 yang membabitkan 70 kematian anggota dan 19 orang awam.

KUALA LUMPUR, 5 Feb (Bernama) -- Keputusan tender terbuka antarabangsa helikopter baru bagi menggantikan Nuri akan dibuat secepat mungkin selepas bidaan ditutup pada 12 Februari ini, kata Penglima Angkatan Tentera Jen Tan Sri Abdul Aziz Zainal.
Beliau berkata tender itu sepatutnya tamat sebulan yang lalu tetapi dilanjutkan bagi membolehkan lebih banyak syarikat membuat bidaan.
"Banyak proses saringan yang harus dilalui tapi InsyaAllah secepat mungkin kita akan putuskan syarikat yang berjaya mendapat tender tersebut," katanya kepada pemberita selepas melancarkan sistem "Balanced Scorecard Roll-Out (BSC) di Markas Angkatan Tentera di sini hari ini.
Selepas tender ditutup, proses penilaian akan dilakukan bagi membolehkan semua syarikat yang membida tender itu membuktikan helikopter mereka memenuhi spesifikasi yang ditetapkan, kata Abdul Aziz.

Finally, our prime minister has said something ‘correct, correct, correct’ when he stated that the number of votes from Indians for the ruling party will likely drop in the coming polls amid increasing ethnic tensions in Malaysia.
After all these years of hypnotic remote control governance, he has finally heard some of the grievances of the community. That’s the funny thing about elections, it makes the politicians almost humane at times. Or maybe it's just those big ears our PM has which allowed him to hear the thousands of voices, even in his sleep.
Yes Mr PM, I'm Indian and I will NOT vote for the BN or any of your racist ‘keris-wielding’ leaders for I have had enough of your apartheid policies and corrupt leadership. Your desperate attempt at gaining popularity via empty promises only makes you look foolish and desperate.
Compared to you, Dr Mahathir Mohamad looks almost like Mahatma Gandhi. At least he didn't let his racist leaders and others run wild with weapons in their hands, asking for blood.
I read the BN-backed newspapers in the mornings and almost feel like I'm in another country. There is so much coverage on Indians and their plight nowadays. Your main mandor S Samy Vellu, after 30 years, is now desperately scrambling around and has actually come up with a seven-point plan to raise the standard of living for the Indians in Malaysia.
However, he conveniently omitted the most important point and that is his resignation from MIC and the withdrawal of MIC from the BN. What happened to the RM100 million collected for Maika? Whose pocket did that go into? What happened to the Telekom shares? Whose pocket? It goes on.
For as long as Samy Vellu remains in MIC, any equity allocated for the Indians will be siphoned off by him and his cronies. Secondly, as long as MIC remains a component of the BN where Umno rules the roost, the Indians will only get crumbs during election times.

Pak Lah, tell Samy Vellu to step down

I have read Malaysiakini reports regarding the Indian community after the Hindraf rally on Nov 25. Well, I would like to inform you that all the blame should be pointed to one individual.
I would like to state here that the majority of the Indian community are disgusted with the leadership of MIC president S Samy Vellu because despite not doing much for the Indian community during his 29-year tenure, he still insisted that he remain the supreme leader for the Indian community. He said he ‘needed more time’ to uplift the Indian community’s status.
I think Samy Vellu has no self-dignity to make such remarks. The marginalisation of the Indian community would have not occurred if Samy Vellu had placed the Indian community above himself and honesty, service and sacrifice above greed.
The dilemma facing the Indian community will continue as long as it is led by Samy Vellu, because the Indian community’s trust in him is a total failure.
Maika Holdings wiped out millions of dollars – the hard-earned savings of thousands of poor Indians. Investors were left clinging to the valueless Maika shares, their dreams and aspirations destroyed forever. But Samy Vellu planned to sell the Maika shares, worth RM127 million, to a bumiputera company overnight. Luckily, a court order was filed to stop the sale of the shares.
Samy Vellu's asserts that the three percent equity for the Indians had been on the national agenda for a long time. But nothing had been implemented for the community, and the failure to reach that equity level lies wholly with him because he failed to demand it from the government.
On the Tamil school issue, Samy Vellu failed to provide Tamil schools with the same (or equal) facilities granted to other (Malay and Chinese) schools. Facilities at most Tamil schools are very poor and the conditions are very pathetic.
Despite this, he arrogantly stated that he had already spoken to the government to allocate funds for Tamil schools. On Hindu temples, Samy Vellu boldly stated that these temples were in the way of development and had to be demolished. We accept his remarks but no alternative land was allocated and gazetted as Hindu temple reserve land and no funds were granted for the relocation
Samy Vellu claims that the temples demolished were re-sited, but he cannot furnish any documented proof of land or funds granted for these re-sited temples. This is so because the temples that were demolished were not to be rebuilt. He can't cheat the Indian community anymore. Enough is enough.
Samy Vellu has failed miserably in all capacities – he never has had and never will have the ability to restore the Indian community’s dignity in Malaysia.
So, on behalf of Indians, we want the honourable prime minister to ask Samy Vellu to step down and make way for another Indian leader who can work toward the betterment of the Indian community in Malaysia - now and for future generations.

"Jika beliau nak saman, silakan kerana kami tiada kepentingan langsung dalam Karyawan lagi," balas Pak Aziz yang merupakan bekas Biro Artis Veteran Karyawan.
Sementara Betty yang juga bekas Biro Ekonomi Karyawan turut menambah, "Biarlah laporan tersebut diteruskan kerana jika beliau tak bersalah buat apa takut dan menggelabah.
"Kalau disoal siasat sekalipun, itu perkara normal. Lagipun laporan tersebut dibuat ke atas pengarah projek dan Ketua Biro DJ Azmi Mohd. Nor.
"Laporan ini juga dibuat untuk memberi pengajaran kepada persatuan lain. Sama seperti Pak Aziz, saya tak takut disaman kerana kami bukan lagi ahli Karyawan."
Kes itu timbul apabila Pak Aziz mendedahkan penyelewengan yang berlaku dalam persatuan itu sejak setahun lalu dan beliau sendiri dengan sukarelanya meletak jawatan pada 2 Januari lalu.
Selain menjadi kes polis, Badan Pencegah Rasuah (BPR) turut memanggil Pak Aziz dan pengikutnya yang dianggap sebagai anak sendiri itu untuk menyiasat kes yang melibatkan dana dan kewangan Karyawan pada 22 Januari lalu di Ibu Pejabat BPR, Putrajaya.
Lingam Tape: Boycott commission, Bar Council

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Lawyers walk out from inquiry.
The Lingam tape royal commission of inquiry’s decision to forfeit Anwar Ibrahim and his team of lawyers proves that the entire process is not keen at all to see restoration of the judiciary’s honour in this country.
Most of the us knew since the start of this inquiry that things are not been going to be as expected. With the so-called ‘terms of reference’, the inquiry is more interested in limiting information and where possible, even refusing to let witnesses speak out the truth in the case of Anwar.
To me, one of the strong reasons to prevent Anwar from testifying is because as a former deputy prime minister, he knows the facts. Letting him speak out could drive the final nail into the judiciary’s coffin.
The fact is that Anwar and Aliran have the same feelings of Malaysians who are actually very worried. The are many questions that we would like to pose to the inquiry:
- What is the purpose of this inquiry into the ‘Lingam Tape’?
- Out of the five commissioners, four of them have a judicial background. So aren't they interested in restoring the judiciary’s integrity in Malaysia?
- Whether commission chairperson Haidar Mohd Noor has dealt with Ahmad Fairuz directly or indirectly is not an issue. There is a clear evidence to show that he is related to Ahmad Fairuz. Isn't it important to be see that the entire inquiry is free from all suspicious relationships even if not proven?
- Having failed to disclose this material fact, Haidar has already failed in his capacity as the chairperson and his adamancy in continuing to heading the inquiry will without doubt destroy whatever little faith the people have left in the commission. Is he prepared for this?
- Instead of disqualifying witnesses that it considers a threat, wouldn’t it better for the commission members themselves to recuse themselves if their presence would hamper efforts towards establishing the truth? Shouldn’t they show some respect for the very institution they come form?
It is important at this juncture for the Bar Council to take a firm stance. It should consider among others, a boycott of the commission as vital towards rescuing our judiciary. Everyone needs to make a choice now.
SPECIAL REPORT: Showdown in Penang

Penang is shaping up to be a major battleground between the ruling Barisan Nasional coalition and the opposition in the 2008 general elections. After all, it is the home state of two key leaders - Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and former deputy premier Anwar Ibrahim.
With a swing against the government among Chinese and Indian voters, the opposition is expected to pick up more seats at the expense of Gerakan, MCA and MIC - the three parties representing the two minority communities in BN.
The focus will again on how well DAP - the main opposition party in the state - will do this time in this Chinese-majority state. Its best ever showing was in 1990 when it came close toppling the Gerakan-led government by grabbing 14 state seats.
Another interesting question is whether Umno will finally claim leadership in Penang - the only state in Peninsular Malaysia under BN rule which is not governed by the ruling party. Pressure will mount for Umno to take the helm should Gerakan and MCA suffer massive defeat.

Crime was the 55 per cent increase in rapes

KUALA LUMPUR: The number of violent and property crimes in the city showed a decrease of seven per cent last year compared with 2006.
City CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner II Ku Chin Wah said there were 29,473 cases reported last year, down from 31,740 cases the previous year.
However, several categories within the crime indexes showed a sharp spike.
“These numbers are calculated based on the reports lodged by victims in the five districts under the city police contingent — Dang Wangi, Brickfields, Cheras, Sentul and Putrajaya,” said Ku.
The biggest increase in violent crimes was seen in unarmed gang robbery with a 95 per cent increase.
However, the increase could have been caused by a reclassification exercise conducted by police late last year.
Before October, 2007, gang robbery was classified as robbery committed by five or more people. From October onwards, it was classified as robbery committed by more than one person.
The other upward trend in violent crime was the 55 per cent increase in rapes, from 147 to 228 cases.
In property crimes, the biggest increase was in house break-ins committed at night, with 2,489 cases — 448 cases higher than 2006
