MIC branch dissolved, members become PAS supporters
TAIPING: The Kampung Jebong MIC branch in Simpang here was officially dissolved when 110 of its members quit the party to become members of "Kelab Penyokong PAS" (PAS Supporters Club).
Branch chairman M. Muninathan, accompanied by committee members, submitted their application forms to Bukit Gantang MP Roslan Shaharom at a village temple here on Saturday night.
Roslan said the welfare of the former MIC branch members and members of the Indian community would be taken care of.
"We will take care of you because any problems affecting the Indian community will also affect members of the other communities," he said.
Roslan said he was indebted to the Indian community here as more than 95% of Indian voters within the Bukit Gantang parliamentary constituency had voted for him in the recently-concluded general election.
He said members of the community had every reason to rejoice as two of the three state seats in the constituency had been won by Barisan Rakyat, and the victors -- Mohd Osman Mohd Jailu (Changkat Jering) and Tai Sing Ng (Kuala Sepetang) -- had been appointed exco members of the new Perak state government.

Why Samy Vellu is lobbying for Hindraf 5
themalaysianinsider
Today, he is still searching for a formula to win back the support of the Indians. Party officials say that the MIC needs rebranding to be relevant. So he has started workshops on rebranding the party.
Others argue that if the MIC manages to push the government to release the Hindraf 5, some credit could flow back to the Samy Vellu because it would show that the party was capable of responding to the demands of the community, even those demands which could open it to attack from Umno.
So Samy Vellu today said that 2 of the detainees should be freed soon because one was ill, R. Kenghadaran, and the other, M. Manoharan, has been elected as an assemblyman in Selangor.
He also downplayed the role of V. Ganabatirau and K. Vasantha Kumar, saying that they were not really involved in rally organised by Hindraf on Nov 25.
The fifth Hindraf leader under detention is lawyer P. Uthayakumar.
The MIC president said that he will raise the matter with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.
This tactic could backfire on Samy Vellu and expose major differences between Umno and MIC over the handling of the Hindraf 5. The thinking in government all along has been that the Hindraf leaders raised a legitimate issue on the plight of Indians but did so in the wrong way. By appearing to throw their support behind the PKR-PAS-DAP alliance, Uthayakumar and friends are viewed as political adversaries by Umno leaders, and not members of a non-governmental organisation.more...

Malaysia says no to release of ethnic Indian MP
Reuters
Malaysia has refused calls to free a Hindu rights activist, who was jailed last year under an internal-security law, even though he was elected this month to parliament in a show of voter anger at his imprisonment.
Lawyer M Manoharan was one of five Hindu activists detained without charge after they organised an anti-government protest by more than 10,000 ethnic Indians in November. An opposition party later nominated Manoharan for the March 8 poll, which saw a huge protest vote by Malaysia's Indian minority.
"We cannot simply react to political parties' calls," Home Minister Syed Hamid Albar was quoted as saying in the Star daily on Saturday, when asked if the government would release Manoharan so that he could represent his electorate.
He said the government could only reconsider the case if the five activists were no longer deemed security threats.
"We have to give priority to public safety and peace and will give due consideration only if there is no threat to national security," Syed Hamid added.
Under Malaysia's colonial-era Internal Security Act, the government can order someone's indefinite detention, without charge. Human rights and lawyer groups say the law has been abused at times over many years to lock up political opponents.
Manoharan was elected as a candidate for the Democratic Action Party, which is fighting in the courts for his release. An appeal court is due to rule on his case on April 2, but his wife, Pushpaneela, 46, who ran his election campaign while he was behind bars, wants the government to release him before then.

TAKZIAH DI ATAS KEHILANGAN IBU KICKDEFELLA
“Abah will call Taima later”, I told Al. Al just stood there and stared at me, “Abah, Call Taima Illah now!”, He said.
I watched him and we both walked to the room. I sensed something is not quite right.
Before I call my sister, I asked Al what is going on. “Abah call Taima Illah lah….”. “Al, cakaplah apa Taima Illah cakap?”
Al started to cry and he told me this, “Abah, nenek dah meninggal…” more...

Patrick Badawi dan kontrak 8 tahun, Tuanku mahu semula kuasa urusan agama
Tranungkite

DULU TUDUH LIWAT, HARI NI LAIN PULAK
Malaysiakini
