Jeffoii - Everybody is saying Vietnam's economy is booming and may surpass Malaysia's in no time if we are not careful in planning ahead. You can't mess around with a country of over 85 million people, with over 60% of them clustered among the young and productive -- median age being 26.9 years.

Even India is now a strategic partner to Vietnam. It was announced recently that two-way trade between the two countries is expected to reach US$2 billion this year, two years ahead of goals set in the joint statement issued nearly one year ago when the strategic partnership was forged. Major categories of goods exported from Vietnam to India, which has been increasing at a steady 20% growth over the past few years with the trade balance in favour of India, include pepper, rubber, computer hardware and electronics products, cinnamon bark and spice, and garment and textile products.

In July 2007, India decided to invest US$527 million to set up a steel factory in Ba Ria Vung Tau Province, and a further US$600 million oil exploration and exploitation project. Besides, India's Tata Group has decided to pump in more than US$4 billion to set up two steel mills in Ha Tinh Province.

Oii's 7 YRS OLD CAR Block the traffic

NST - Jelutong MP Ooi Chuan Aun's car was towed away from outside Parliament house on Tuesday as it was obstructing traffic.

Federal traffic police chief Datuk Hamza Taib said Ooi's car was towed as it was also the time for the King's arrival.

"The car was towed to the parking bay inside Parliament.

"We did not issue a summons," Hamza said yesterday.

Ooi claimed he was forced to park outside Parliament compound as none of the policemen on duty could tell him the location of Section E, which was reserved for MPs.

“Koh, How To Catch Up With Singapore Within A Year?”, Jeff Asks

PENANG, MALAYSIA: Blogger Jeff Ooi who is running against Penang CM Koh Tsu Koon for the Jelutong parliamentary seat on the DAP ticket wants Koh to explain boasts about catching up with Singapore.

Ooi said Koh said nine years ago that Penang would catch up with Singapore within 10 years. Ooi said Koh should show the evidence if he were to claim that his commitment has been realised. Otherwise, Koh should just jump from the Penang Bridge.

Ooi explained that Koh made the above commitment when he was interviewed by Guang Ming Daily in 23 June 1999. The commitment period will expire in another year and it is necessary for Koh to clarify how and whether Penang has catch up with Singapore.

In the press conference Thursday (28 Feb), Ooi said the data by the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) shows that the Gross Domestic Product (GDP) of Singapore has up to RM156,000 (SGD 48,900). How about Malaysians then?

“I will photocopy this newspaper article to Jelutong voters for them to understand what Koh said before. I hope that Koh will not play with this issue anymore and will answer the question directly. Can Penang catch up with Singapore as scheduled?”

He also intends to use courier to send his new book entitled i-Witness to Koh. He does not require Koh to read the whole book, but read only the preface to learn how to speak the truth.

Ooi also dismissed Koh’s allegations that he had made irresponsible remarks regarding the withdrawal of investors. He said the relevant data are from the Malaysian Industrial Development Authority (MIDA).

He said, according to the data, Penang's total domestic and foreign investment (approved manufacturing sector plan) fell by a third in 2006, and further by a fifth in 2007.

Malaysia's blogger-politician raises almost US$32,000 online

SINGAPORE: A Malaysian blogger-turned-opposition-politician launched an online fundraising campaign last week.
And within such a short time, blogger Jeff Ooi has almost reached his target of raising 100,000 ringgit (US$32,000).

At last count two days ago, this candidate from the opposition Democratic Action Party (DAP) just needed another 5,000 ringgit to meet that target.

He said: "It's tremendous response from the local people, I think. Donations through cash as well as online transactions constitute some 85 percent of the total amount received. About 15 percent came through Paypal." The rest came in through a local bank account that he had set up.

But not all the identities of donors are known.

"I really do not know who they are. They are basically my readers. They are frequent commentators on my blog, but I have never met them in person," said Jeff.

But he does know of two anonymous big donors, whom he calls "crazy guys" – in jest, of course – on his blog. One of them has apparently sent Jeff an email, pledging 30,000 ringgit in three instalments.

Jeff said he has all his contact details, including his mobile phone number, on his blog. That is how his donors have been communicating with him.

As for the other big contributor, Jeff said they have made contact.

"I have spoken to him on the phone and he has intellectually challenged me on a few things. I didn't meet him because he chose to deposit the cheque with the party, not me," he added.

If this 52-year-old former business intelligence analyst wins his seat on 8 March, he could go down in history as the first Malaysian blogger to become a Member of Parliament.

Claiming to be the underdog in this election race, Jeff believes he stands a fair chance. He also said he is heartened by the positive response to his online fundraising campaign.

The money raised will go into running the party operations centre and polling machinery, among other things.

Jeff Ooi gagal ketepikan saman NSTP

KUALA LUMPUR: Mahkamah Tinggi di sini hari ini menolak permohonan blogger Jeff Ooi Chuan Aun untuk membatalkan saman fitnah yang dikemukakan oleh New Straits Times Press (M) Berhad (NSTP) dan tiga yang lain.

Timbalan Pendaftar Mohamad Kamil Nizam menolak permohonan itu dengan kos di dalam kamarnya hari ini.

Pada 4 Jan tahun lepas, NSTP, timbalan pengerusinya Datuk Kalimullah Hassan, ketua pengarang kumpulan Datuk Hishamuddin Aun dan bekas editor kumpulan Brendan Pereira memfailkan saman terhadap Ooi kerana memfitnah dan pemalsuan berniat jahat.

Saman itu berhubung artikel tertentu dan tulisan yang telah diterbitkan, atau dibenar diterbitkan oleh Ooi di laman blog beliau.

Mereka mendakwa artikel-artikel itu merujuk kepada mereka dan bersifat fitnah.
