NST | Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Abdul Razak, who is also the Finance Minister, today described the acquisition of PT Bank Internasional Indonesia Tbk (BII) as a commercial decision by the management of Malayan Banking Bhd (Maybank).
“It is up to Maybank to make whatever decisions,” he told reporters when asked to comment on the matter.
Najib said the decision by Maybank to acquire BII was made before the economic downturn.
“It was decided much earlier, without any interference from the government. It’s a commercial deal. There was an understanding on the deal between Maybank and Temasek Holdings (before the economic downturn),” he said at the Aidilfitri open house by the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers at the Putra World Trade Centre here.... selanjutnya.
