MP for Ipoh Barat M Kulasegaran has been given a four-day suspension by Deputy Speaker Lim Si Cheng.
The suspension was given following an argument between Kulasegaran and Lim on the presence of Dewan Rakyat Speaker and his deputies in the Chamber when the Members of the Parliament Remuneration Amendment Bill was being debated.
The Bill was tabled to amend the remuneration of the Speaker and his deputies.
Kulasegaran was of the view that the presence of the Speaker and his deputies in the Dewan was not appropriate when the debate to amend their salaries was ongoing

KHIR TOYO LETAK JAWATAN?
Dua hari lepas ......
(Rujuk: Fail Mahkamah hilang, Kes Kampung Berembang ditangguh lagi ...)
Harakahdaily - Mahkamah Tinggi Shah Alam yang menolak permohonan pemaju, Perspektif Masa Sdn Bhd untuk mendapatkan pemilikan kekal kawasan kampung itu, bagaimanapun menyatakan satu perbicaraan penuh perlu diadakan, jika pemaju berkenaan masih mahu menuntut pemilikan kawasan tersebut.Kalau aku Khir Toyo ......
Sekiranya saya bersalah, saya sanggup menerima hukuman. Saya tidak sanggup menanggung malu dan dosa."
"Selamat mengundi untuk PRU ke12" mengakhiri ucapannya.

Democracy in Malaysia
December 14, 2007
When Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi took office in 2004, he was welcomed as a modernizer who would expand democratic freedoms in Malaysia. Yesterday, his government resurrected the Internal Security Act, a colonial-era law that gives the executive almost unlimited power to detain opponents. The move raises serious questions about Mr. Abdullah's commitment to democracy.
Malaysia is facing its biggest political crisis since 1998, when former Deputy Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim led the Reformasi movement. Since November, around 30,000 people have rallied for electoral reform, more than 20,000 ethnic Indians have protested against economic discrimination, and lawyers have marched against judicial corruption. Smaller protests were held earlier this week.
Mr. Abdullah first responded defensively, calling on the protestors to stay at home. The police also denied every request for protest permits, under the guise of protecting public safety. (In Malaysia, even though the constitution protects the right to peaceable assembly, any group exceeding five people must obtain a permit to gather.)
When those measures didn't work, Mr. Abdullah adopted the tough tack of his predecessor, Mahathir Mohamad, by intimidating his political opposition. Yesterday, five Indian activists who participated in a largely peaceful Nov. 25 rally were detained under the Internal Security Act. "They can be held for two years for sedition and also for carrying out activities that threaten national security," Deputy Internal Security Minister Johari Baharom told state news agency Bernama. He did not explain how a peaceful protest can "threaten national security."
Mr. Abdullah had been building up to this bombshell all week. On Sunday, a group of lawyers and activists -- including those key to organizing last month's big protests -- were arrested, then released. On Tuesday, several opposition political leaders were jailed. Some -- though not all -- are now out on bail. Some were not even charged, but the message was clear: Criticize the government in advance of the general election expected for early next year, or demand that the electoral process be cleaned up, and you can expect to end up in jail.
By wielding a tough hand, Mr. Abdullah is aggravating the situation. Malaysians don't enjoy the same freedom of speech that other democratic nations enjoy. The press is heavily influenced by government. So one of the few ways for opposition politicians and activists to air their grievances is to get out onto the streets. By denying that right, Mr. Abdullah is challenging the groups to organize bigger rallies.
There's no appetite in Malaysia for violent street protests like the ones the country suffered in 1969, when hundreds were killed in rioting between Malays and ethnic Chinese. But equally, in a mature democracy, there's no reason that Malaysians can't be trusted to have peaceable debates about their political future. Mr. Abdullah's handling of the next round of protests will say much about where Malaysia's democracy is headed. Given yesterday's move, the signs aren't good.

UMNO TAK MAMPU KUMPUL RAKYAT
KENAPA UMNO LANCARKAN KEMPEN TANDA TANGAN?
''We expect overwhelming response as a show of support for the cause. I hope Malaysians from all walks of life will sign on to stop negative elements in Malaysia,'' said a member of UMNO, the Malay component of the ruling Barisan Nasional (BN). - Press Trust of India
Rujuk: 'Silent majority' speaks out against protests
Kini KEMPEN TURUN TANDANGAN pula dilakukan.
Baik Perhimpunan ANTI JUNTA ataupun ANTI ISRAEL. Kalau mereka anjurkan sendiri .......

ISA is AGAINST ISLAM !!!
AMBAR dari (kiri); R Kengadharan, P Uthayakumar, K Vasantha Kumar, V Ganabatirau dan M Manoharan.
dipetik: dppwp.wordpress.com
Sorry, Pete. Still under stealth mode preparing for the big event. We would like to refute the Government’s decision to use ISA on the 5 HINDRAF’s leaders as follows:
1. Using ISA is against Islam. Islam forbids detention without trial. Islam says in the Holy Quran which means “Whoever does not rule according to what Allah has revealed, then they are sinners or disbelievers or oppressors”. We leave them to Allah s.w.t. the All Knowing and All Powerful to decide on their fate.
2. According to HUMAN RIGHTS, detention with trial is also a violation of international laws. It is a basic HUMAN RIGHT to every human being who is accused of a crime to get a fair and speedy trial. We leave them to the world to decide their fate.
3. We are impartial. It is clear now that from points 1 and 2, the Malaysian citizens have to choose the elected people’s representatives based on these 2 points. As long as the Malaysian citizens do not make the right choice, ISA will be there forever unless something spectacular happens. As long as this kind of elected people’s representatives are in Parliament, the ISA cannot be abolished.
4. This is an election campaign issue. This message must waterfall to the rural folks so that they are given the correct knowledge and picture of the actual problem for them to decide in the upcoming GE. The Government is saying that the Opposition is only thinking of its political interests in any issue. It is clear that the Government itself is using ISA for its political interest to silence the Opposition. The Government is like a “crab saying to its siblings to walk straight while it cannot do so itself”. The Government cannot bluff and fool the intellectuals and the people who use their brains to think. The Government can only do that to the rural folks. It is our duty to convey the truth to the masses forever, be it regarding this Government or any other Government in the future for that matter.
5. The Government has made an unwise decision to use the ISA. It will not resolve the problem at the root cause. It is just a superficial solution. This also indicates that the Government is weak and ineffective in resolving a simple problem as such. With just 5 HINDRAF leaders has already made the Government panic. What happens if the country is faced with a more severe and serious problem? We dread to think about it. The problem will explode one day because it is being bottled up and swept under the carpet.
Best Regards………

BEREMBANG: RAKYAT MENANG !!!
TOLAK BN, TOLAK UMNO !!!
Agendadaily - Dr. Khir juga bercakap panjang tentang stail pentadbirannya khususnya dalam matlamat nak jadikan Selangor setinggan sifar.

The Chief Architect of Malaysia Rallies
via khinghong
Khairy Jamaludin, the deputy chief of Umno Youth and a group of protesters tried to force their way into the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre to hand over a memorandum to US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Khairy face appears in YouTube video clip with the title Illegal Umno Youth Protest by Khairy Jamaludin. They were, however, prevented from doing so by members of the Federal Reserve Unit (FRU). But Khairy was later allowed into the centre where he presented the memorandum to a US representative. He told reporters inside the centre that the memorandum expressed the feelings of the Malaysian people.
However, Khairy involvement in this Anti-Israel Rally was defended by his Umno Youth president by saying “Demonstrasi Pemuda Bukan Demontrasi Haram” (meaning Demonstration Umno Youth Is Not An Illegal Demonstration in Malay).

Malaysian PM warns ethnic Indians of tough action
source: news.hinduworld.com
Kuala Lumpur, December 14: Defending the decision to invoke a draconian security law against ethnic-Indian leaders, Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi said their actions "could be deemed as treachery" while an opposition party said it will challenge the move in court.
Abdullah said Hindu Rights Action Force’s (Hindraf) allegations of "ethnic cleansing" and marginalisation of ethnic-Indians in Malaysia had hurt the country's image and could seriously impair efforts to attract investors and tourists.
"These actions could be deemed as treachery," he was quoted as saying by media here after signing the detention orders for five Hindraf leaders under the Internal Security Act (ISA) which allows detention without trial.
"Yes, I have signed the detention orders and there is nothing more to explain," Abdullah said. "When I feel the situation warrants it, I just sign," he said after a close-door meeting with Brisan Nasional leaders, declining to reveal if more people would be detained.
However, police said "others involved or having links with any terrorist organisation that could threaten or jeopardise national security will be picked up." Abdullah said the country's peace and security superseded the freedom of speech. "I value what is freedom, but law and order is more important and needs to be preserved."
The opposition party DAP said it will file a habeas corpus application to challenge the order detaining five Hindraf leaders under ISA.
"We will act immediately, in the interest of the public, and ensure no one is victimised," its chairman Karpal Singh was quoted as saying. Two of those detained, M. Manoharan and V. Ganabathirau, are DAP members.
"Under any circumstances, the use of the ISA should not be justified. If there is any evidence, the accused should be given opportunities to face trial in open court. The authorities have gone too far in invoking the ISA," Singh said.
Foreign Minister Syed Hamid Albar said Malaysia did not need the sanction of others to use the ISA against those who posed a threat to the nation. Speaking at a special briefing for heads of foreign missions in Malaysia, Syed Hamid cautioned other countries from interfering in Malaysia's internal affairs and reminded some that the ISA was just like their own preventive laws.
Meanwhile, the High Court has adjourned till Monday the review proceedings challenging a lower court's decision to deny bail to 31 Hindraf supporters charged with attempt to murder for allegedly causing injury to a policeman during a protest on November 25.
The 31 men had been denied bail since they were charged in a sessions court here on Dec 6. In Johor Baru, Malaysian Indian Congress president and Minister of works Samy Vellu described the arrests of five Hindraf members as a timely move.
"It is necessary for the sake of maintaining peace and security in the country," he said, adding that the government had taken a bold move to arrest the leaders who were out to
jeopardise the country's security and show the world that the country was not peaceful.
The Malaysian police's crackdown on ethnic-Indians had prompted India to express concern over the issue while Hindraf appealed to New Delhi to use its influence with Kuala Lumpur. Ethnic-Indians comprise eight per cent of Malaysia's 27 million multi-racial population.
But Abdullah, while attacking the Hindraf leaders, said to run down the country "and plead for sympathy from foreign powers are tantamount to treason". He said Hindraf leaders were willing to see the country suffer to further their interests.
Abdullah reiterated the government's stand of providing equal opportunities for every Malaysian. "Anyone in this country can be successful as long as he works hard."
Admitting that the system of governance may at times be imperfect, he said continuous efforts were being made to improve it for the benefit of all Malaysians.
Abdullah said the government had no option but to act against any group resorting to unlawful means, such as street demonstrations, to air their grouses. "We will never accept street demonstrations as part of our culture.
"Malaysian society as a whole rejects street demonstrations and these have not in any way been able to change the government's policies." Abdullah said the people supported the government's action against demonstrators as they had caused hardship, particularly among the business community.

Pak Lah is PM for AAB & Co.
via wengsan.blogspot
50 years of independence and yet during this celebration which the government has poured in RM100 million, the country seems to be more rotten, divided and government seems to be more oppressing. The country has witnessed 2,000 lawyers, 40,000 Bersih demonstrators and 30,000 Hindraf supporters went to the street to demand a clean-up for the judiciary, to demand a free and fair election and to demand a new and fair deal for the marginalized Indians in Malaysia.
This what Lim Kit Siang started with his speech organized by the DAP in NUBE building, Brickfields on 12th December 2007 when he said that although Pak Lah claimed that he has ‘Big Ears’, his ‘Big Ears’ do not hear the people.
“Pak Lah had promised four years ago that he will be PM for all that he will listen to truth. He hear nothing, he is not a PM for Chinese, he is not a PM for Indians, he is not a PM for Kadazans, he is not a PM for Ibans and he is not a PM for poor and marginalized Malays. He is only a PM for Abdullah Ahmad Badawi & Company.”
Kit Siang also urged Nazri, Devamany to apologise.
He also mentioned what the Indians can do in the general election, that is to shake BN up with the Indians vote for Opposition especially in about 60 constituencies in the peninsula which Indians voters constitute more than 10 percents of the voters. He even named the parliament constituencies in Selangor and Federal Territory.
He also criticized the Attorney-General, Abdul Gani Patail for his claim that Hindraf has terrorist link with LTTE based on a police report.
Kit Siang also questioned, “If that can be justified, then other people can lodge report that UMNO and BN has terrorist links. Can we use this police report to say that UMNO and BN are terrorist or have terrorist links?”

They were under Section 8(1) which allows the person is detained for any period not exceeding two years. These 5 leaders have been taken to the police headquarters in Bukit Aman.
Those arrested are:
1. P. Uthayakumar (Hindraf legal adviser)
2. M. Manoharan (Lawyer)
3. R. Kenghadharan (Lawyer)
4. V. Ganabati Rao (Lawyer)
5. T. Vasanthakumar (Organizing Secretary)
The first to be arrested was lawyer Kenghadharan, at his office in Petaling Jaya about 12.30pm by a team of police from Bukit Aman. He was followed by Ganabatirau who was picked up by the police in Seremban. Vasanthakumar was nabbed at about 2pm at Brickfields. Ganabati Rao was arrested by a special branch team. Manoharan is believed to have been arrested while he visited Kenghadharan at Bukit Aman while Uthayakumar was taken away from his legal firm in Bangsar.
The Abolish ISA Movement (Gerakan Mansuhkan ISA, GMI) condemns the use of the Internal Security Act (ISA) to arrest the 5 Hindraf leaders. GMI further condemns the continued threats of the use of the ISA to instil fear among citizens to deter them from participating in any public gatherings.
The controversial ISA, which has been widely criticized both internationally and locally, is a mark of a government that threats dissent and public criticism with unjust measures. The draconian law has been repeatedly used to clampdown on the democratic movement and opposition leaders in the country. Many have languished in detention without trial for years and suffered inhumane torture and treatment in detention. |more...|

VK LINGAM: Additional conversation transcript
via suaraKeadilan
The transcript of the additional vonversation,
Lingam: Chief Justice Malaya.
[Off Camera Voice]: Who is that?
Lingam: Dato Ahmad Fairuz
[Off camera voice]: Oh Ahmad Fairuz.
Lingam: I put him up there. Don’t tell this, please. I cannot tell this to Manjit. And he is acting President Court of Appeals Number 2 post. He is next Chief Justice. He always says “I leave it to you.”
[Off Camera Voice]: I thought you were very close to Tun Eusoff Chin, Datuk?
Lingam: He is Eusoff Chin’s man, Eusoff Chin retired. But Dzaiddin hates Eusoff Chin, you understand? Ah..
[Off Camera Voice]: Because you know I…I…I..as far as I know you are very…
Lingam: Eusoff Chin and I are extremely close. Because you know…Yeah. Eusoff Chin in power, I can straight and get in Pom! Pom! Pom! Pom! But now Dzaiddin is there. So Dzaiddin is attacking our cases. That means what? James Kumar is aligned to Dzaiddin. But Dzaiddin is retiring in 15th of September. He is finished.
[Off camera voice]: Next year?
Lingam: So Dzaiddin really wants to go…Don’t worry. Dzaiddin recommended Malik Ahmad to be Chief Judge of Malaya. But we went and “cut” “cut” cut” cut” I and Tengku Adnan and Vincent told PM. I stop him for now, because he is anti-PM. We put Fairuz in. And we put…I told you three months ago he became CJM [Chief Justice Malaya]. He said “Don’t believe.” Then he got it. He rang up to thank me. And all that. He now acting PCA because Wan Adnan is sick. Right? This. Apart from law knowledge you need kow tow. Please understand that. You need to know the emperor. Knowing the law doesn’t give you
the winning formula, you must also kow tow to the emperor. Correct or not? So now I am working very hard. So he agreed to meet Vincent Tan and PM and…what you call Tengku Adnan.
[Off camera voice]: Do you think Vincent has an interest over PM?
Lingam: You don’t know about the history. Businesswise may not be successful. Robert Kuok is very brilliant. Lim Goh Tong is very rich. Vincent Tan, you know what PM say? He went to Averton he went to Langkawi. He said bincang. I want you to build a hotel here. His wife pulled him away. [Inaudible] He said Dato Seri I will think about it. The wife pulled him away. There is another [inaudible] cannot get a bank loan. Vincent there. Vincent, can you build a hotel? Ready for next Air show?
I want you do it in 6 months. `Datuk Seri, Don’t worry, I will get it done.’ He paid double the price to get all of them. A big loss lah. Then Solomon Island and Fiji and all, he said, Vincent go and invest there, he went and bought…[inaudible] the government factory [inaudible] you do this project a bit and cover up your loss. PM will do what he want to do to cover your backside.
[Off camera voice]: Vincent is very close to him.
Lingam: That’s right. Don’t ask… because Vincent has taken me to PM’s residence… the house … [inaudible]… Anwar’s case… the lawyers…Wee Cheong … [inaudible]. But I cannot go and talk to PM just like that and say promote this and that…
Because ah, he knows… I am a… but when PM calls me on Anwar’s case, I can tell him… he’ll listen…But if I go promote so and so, that means I got interest. So, I don’t do that. I use Vincent and Tengku, go and do that. I don’t f*** them up. They go
and do that. But I tell you this lah. Don’t tell in front of people, of course. Life, one thing go confidential wrong is dangerous. Ah. Never, never say…You should… never. Even though to PM. You should never say. I don’t know. I always say “I don’t know.” That’s all.
[Off camera voice]: Everybody… I think many people know. Even the son case, everything I talk the father, …. Talk until he agreed.
Lingam: You know me [inaudible]. But I never talk about it. Even the son’s case, I do everything. I talk to the father…Talk until he agreed. But if it is a big crisis that affects him, ….I can talk, he will listen. But if I want to favour somebody, that I cannot guarantee. Because my interest is not his interest. You know what I mean. Tomorrow invest your interest involving your father, I can come say this this this, you will listen. But tomorrow I appeal for me, you are not obliged to listen. Because you are a politician, PM. Politician is what is your interest, not what is my interest. But if I am giving advise on your interest, you will listen. On my interest, you will not. You must be careful about this.
[Off camera voice]: Datuk, I need to ask you this question.
Lingam: Ask me. Ask me.
[Off camera voice]: For a while now…
Lingam: Because we can talk behind these people.
[Off camera voice]… Actually, I think, you know, Daim has more equity interest in Berjaya than Vincent Tan, isn’t that true?
Lingam: Let me tell you something … [inaudible] was bought by Daim … [inaudible]. Later on he did some deals where Daim supposed to help him. One or two he helped. Supposed to give him some money. Didn’t give. Part was paid, part not paid. Later on Daim called up and he got paid.

M Kulasegaran akhirnya dihalau keluar

Playing the racial card
via hiroblog2007.
Watching video clips from Malaysiakini recently, one cannot help but wonder if Malaysia is the same police state that it was under Mahathir Administration.
It seems that UMNO cannot extricate itself from playing the racial card to stay in power. One is tempted to think that it may not be the fault of the leadership, but they have to do what they have to do in order to stay accepted, least they are pushed out by extremist elements within the party. Perhaps they have found out all too well when Mahathir took over from Tun Hussein Onn. At the end of the day, it is all Malay politics.
We should be realistic and appreciate that the Malay Muslim electorate tend to think as follows:
1) Lina Joy conversion case: 2-1 decision in the Federal Court shows balance, and therefore the right decision. I'm not going to let someone in my family convert out of Islam, it's a question of family honour (that supersedes that family members' personal convictions and Constitutional right)
2) Hindu/Muslim conversion cases: Too bad, shit happens sometimes, but convert to Islam good mar...
3) NEP injustices: we may sympathise, but are we really going to lose sleep if the policy is not implemented fairly? We (or someone related to us) are at the positive receiving end, no system is perfect, so sure got leakages one, but tak apa lar (even though billions could have been used to make us a first class nation if not otherwise lining someone elses' pockets)
4) Hindraf "demands": by asking for more Indian rights, the implication is some rights have to be taken away from Malays - that's a big no no (even though those affected Indians are in a far more sorry state than the Malays - face it, they don't have NEP to help them)
5) Unfair elections: the press says some foreign polling result shows most of us think that elections are free and fair wat, so what's this Bersih talking about?
6) Official corruption: AAB promised anti-corruption, nailed many fishes wat, so what's the problem (even though all the big ones got away)
7) Official incompetence: well, the mass media is inundated with government officials planning/investigating this and that (but not showing any results) so they are probably working their best (we have short memory), and we should give them a chance
8) Rising crime: I'm at kampung, not sure what's the big hoo hah in the cities - anyway, blame it foreign labourers, not the government
We (those of us who could read online and are inclined towards indepedent viewpoints anyway) are probably inclined to think that the government should lead by the highest standards, and with inspired wisdom. Unfortunately, the reality is this government is good at sensing the pulse of the Malay nation (that much credit we have to give them) to the extent that they are likely able to persuade the rural folks that:
1) a racial plea for fairness (as in the case of Hindraf*) is equivalent to a racial provocation (which is when what Najib, Hishammuddin and most recently Rustam said about bathing blood to protect Malay supremacy did not even earn them a slap on the wrist)
* I don't know about the truth behind the allegation of ethnic cleansing - that's really up to the Court to decide if it is seditious - but come on, to put them behind ISA detention for 2 years do not just look desperate, but downright vindictive
2) political security of UMNO (i.e. fear of losing a Parliamentary seat) is equivalent to national security for Malaysia (national security means, for instance, some enemy state knows exactly which houses to bomb to kill off all cabinet Ministers/Parliamentarians because someone in Malaysia leaked all the addresses to them - now THAT's a threat to national security)
3) criticism against the government is an attack on Malay Muslims (which implies the government only acts for Malay Muslims, and you wonder how AAB could claim to be PM for all Malaysians)
4) all rallies (no matter how peaceful like the Bersih, Hindraf and Malaysian Bar) are violent (even though the violence and road blocks are caused by the police)
(1) -(4) of which are basis for the ISA arrests.
It is actually strange that UMNO should want to encourage extremism (and lack of critical thinking) in its electorate when it has every resources to take the middle ground and be progressive. Perhaps the simplest answer is also the correct one, that by keeping to the extreme, they are in a better position to win support. If that's the case, then all hopes are lost as far as Malaysia is concerned, because the question now is not replacement of leaders, but replacement of mindset of the people.
Even assuming the opposition comes to power, what's preventing them from adopting the same realistic strategy? I just hope I am wrong, that all electorates are born with an ingrained sense of what's right and wrong, so that with proper persuasion, they will vote for someone who will manage this country better.
The fight taken up by the opposition and like minded NGOs should primarily focus winning over the minds of the rural folks, by all creative means available. That's the only way we can stop this unbelievably tortuous state of regression.

Sorry, I'm Indian
via anfielddevotee.blogspot
"This a betrayal of our country. Was there ethnic cleansing? There was nothing about wiping out the Indians in the country." - PM
"If I have to sign (ISA detention orders), I will do so without feeling guilty or sad." - PM
As expected, that wonderful three-lettered piece of legislation has finally made a return to the front pages. The HINDRAF leaders/organisers were sent off fer a holiday in Kamunting last nite after rumours of a second (& bigger) rally was being planned. No fooking surprise that the govt would go down this route.
"Racial hatred", "sedition", "national security" - all the usual reasons were wheeled out to justify the govt's use of this piece of legislation. But like I said, this was to be expected. What is of a greater concern is how law-abiding citizens are also affected.
This is what our good friend Premo had to endure on Wed nite as he drove into KL city centre fer an appointment. The place was utter chaos not because of street demos but due to numerous police road blocks. Premo was stopped & immediately questioned as to his involvement with Hindraf. On what basis? Coz he is Indian. Despite his protestations, he was hauled off to the utterly unpleasant confines of the Dang Wangi station. He was among 15 others who were being held on "suspicion of being linked to Hindraf".
After a couple of hours of being subject to all sorts of racial slurs (Premo can't even bring himself to repeat most what was said such was his disgust),he was let go with zero fooking explanation. This episode literally means Indians cannot freely go where they want in their own country of birth. How is this reflective of a democractic country?
This goes beyond racial profiling. It is sheer fooking RACIAL harassment. How can anyone justify being made to feel like a fooking criminal fer the colour of their skin? Think bout it fer a moment, a law-abiding citizen of this country is hauled off simply fer being Indian.
Fer those who think this is a minor inconvenience fer the greater "good & safety of the rakyat", will see if you feel the same if it was yer arse being dragged into custody. And believe me, it is a unnerving experience to be in when you know the police can do whatever the fook they want (& get away with it!). Premo's story is not an isolated incident. Neither will it be the last.
Yes, Malaysia Indians have not been exterminated like the Bosnians in the Balkan states. But as Premo's experience highlights, our rights are constantly being trampled upon & treated like fooking no-class criminals. Malaysia - a civil society? Fook off!
As fer the police behaving like Ku Klux Klan members, anyone who knows the inner workings of the police force will tell you this is nothing new & if you are of an ethnic minority in their custody, things will be very fooked up (fer you, that is).
Do you think this is a small price to pay? Or are you intelligent enough to realise certain fundamental human rights are sacred? I leave it to yer better judgement to decide & to cast yer decision at the upcoming polls . . .
ps: Please feel free to comment or share any similar experiences you may have had . . .

Why I choose to fight? Despite ISA
via dal-yel
What is there left for me? In this life? In this country? My notes still bare, untouched. I just don't know why, I spent a hell of a time in front of my computer screen, more than I have ever been with games. To learn the truth, to seek for a glint of hope? Truth I found, but not so much so with hope.
How could Malaysians be so apathetic? How could they not care for their own people? Perhaps that's the result of long divide and conquer rule, leaving us to see one another with distrust and lack of compassion. Are we fearful of our lives? Is what am I doing here, voicing out, ranting, activism a risk that not a common Malaysian can take? How about a little chat over coffee or tea? Would that land you in Kamunting?
Some of you would know that I had broken up with my more-than-one-year girlfriend. Our 2nd anniversary was due on Jan 8 next year. Despite our differences and the long distance that we had to endureth, (ya we're in LDR for such a long time, both of us are undergrads, and we only could see each other twice a year), there's another reason why I agreed to the break-up.
It happened on Sunday after 10-Eleven, she was scared for my safety, and she made me promised to not be involved in any demonstration until I graduate. It's pretty much like either us or demonstration kinda choice. I tried to reason with her, that it wasn't that dangerous and besides I know how to distance myself. She didn't say that I can be involved after graduation, I think there would always be reasons for me not to. I realised that I cannot provide her the security and the promise that she would see me everyday safe and sound, so I decided to let go.
I had to. Her culture and mindset is that of a Chinese ethno-centric kind, whenever you pop the issue to her like what happened this lately, she would suggest to move out of this country. I couldn't bring myself to agree with her. She could not even see the point of the greater good that we're fighting and risking it all for. Neither could I stand to live a life that serves unto me only. This is my land, the land on which my first blood was spilled the time I was born. How could it be so easy for me to migrate?
I lived in Brunei for 5 years when I was a kid. There are times that I felt like I wished I had a Bruneian PR, even more a Bruneian citizenship. It was such a rich country, and continues to be now. Everytime I go back to Miri, I would stay for most of the time with my parents working in Berakas, Brunei. It's so peaceful, where the crime of murder is so rare, that if you're lucky you only get one murder report in a year. Same goes with other hideous crimes like rape. That is despite the fact that there are many, and I really mean many, foreign workers. We have such a benevolent King, the Sultan, who looked after us, all of us, who could go so low as to mingle with his common subjects. |more...|

US demands due process for arrested Malaysian activists
via therawstory
The United States demanded Thursday that Malaysia provide due process of law to five leaders of a rights group held under a draconian law, after they organized peaceful protests to highlight racial and religious discrimination.
Washington also underscored its "firm position" that Malaysians be allowed to peacefully express themselves, saying it was fundamental for healthy civil society and political stability.
The five leaders of the Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf), pushing for an end to discrimination of ethnic Indians in multi-racial Malaysia, were picked up Thursday and ordered held under the feared Internal Security Act (ISA), which allows for detention indefinitely without trial.
"Our expectation as a government is that these individuals would be provided the full protections under Malaysian law, that they would be given due process, that they would be accorded all the rights accorded to any other citizen, and that this be done in a speedy and transparent manner," State Department spokesman Sean McCormack said.
"It is our firm position that those individuals who want to peacefully express themselves in a political forum or any other forum should be allowed to do so," he told reporters.
Human rights groups have campaigned for the abolition of the Internal Security Act, a law that they say has been abused by the authorities.
The Malaysian government of Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi should ensure that the five arrested leaders are provided legal rights "consistent with Malaysian law and international standards," a State Department official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
Hindraf enraged the government last month by mustering at least 8,000 people to the streets of Kuala Lumpur after another rare demonstration organized by electoral reform campaigners. Police used tear gas, water cannons and baton charges to break up the street protests.
A Hindraf spokesman said the arrests of P. Uthayakumar, M. Manoharan, R. Kenghadharan, V. Ganabatirau and T. Vasanthakumar would not silence the movement, which the government has accused of stirring up racial tension.
The Malaysian government, led by ethnic Malays since independence, has always used deadly race riots in 1969 as a reason for controls on freedom even though some groups believe Malaysians have matured enough to discuss their grievances openly.
"Malaysian authorities are obligated, like any sovereign countries' government, to balance the need for public order with equally important need for robust and free debate of issues important to Malaysian citizens," the State Department official said.
"It is our hope that the Malaysia government will allow the freest possible debate," said the official.
The ISA is currently being used to hold more than 100 people, including about 80 alleged Islamic militants.
It is not thought to have been used against government critics since 2001, when Malaysia was under former premier Mahathir Mohamad, who used it to quell a reform movement triggered by the arrest of his deputy Anwar Ibrahim in 1998.
Anwar was assaulted, on the night he was arrested, by the national police chief, who was eventually convicted and jailed briefly and fined for hitting the leader.

TAK NAK! to ISA!
source: watonearthrwedoin
A new campaign should begin.....Tak Nak! to ISA!
ISA, a internal security act which allows detention trial has been applied unto 5 hindraf leaders. And for what? apparently claimed to be a threat to national security. Of course, it is justifiable in the eyes of those who had played up the issues against Hindraf.
beginning with hindraf's national tour to deliver talks pertaining to the Indian community marginalization, they were brought to lime light in the name of sedition. Although some of the claims are rather farfetched in the sphere of our definition of certain terminology used, but nonetheless, Hindraf uses those "farfetched" terms as their punchline to get attention. Of course, using such strategy is taking a big risk, especially going against the norm of definitions, nonetheless, they have successfully gained international attention through their "farfetched" claims.
What's next? Uthayakumar's office was thoroughly searched by the police to catch Hindraf red handed for seditious materials. However, at the end of the day, it was futile, they left the place empty-handed, and I believe with frustration, they'd probably thought "Dang...this guys hide barang larangan better than school students!" Well, of course i write this in view of my experience as a prefect. As long as there are a list of "suspect" classes, we always expect a great haul when doing a spot check in those classes. Otherwise, we'll leave by concluding, "they have passed the barang larangan to their friends in another class", "someone in the prefects' board leaked info", "the teacher coorporated with the students", and of course, all these reasonings rule out the fact that they never actually brought barangan larangan, it was merely their lucky day. And of course, that happens when we are frustrated. "There are no substantial evidences we can bring those Hindraf crooks to court", a most possible statement to be made by police personnels who did the search in Uthayakumar's office.
Then, we have the mass rallies, which, of course has been sensationalised out of proportion by the government, not only have they brought 31 guys to a murder attempt charge, the PM even issued threat to invoke ISA. More than that, they have portrayed those who joined the rally as violent and uncivilised people.
After that, the 5 who are currently detained under ISA were brought in court in and out over a number of times. of course the 1st charge before the protest was not pleasing to the government because they were released unconditionally on grounds that there were no substantial evidences to charge them, mainly because the prosecution team failed to produce an original tamil transcript as evidence, but only a mere translation of what has been said. I support the judge's decision because anyone could temper with the translation prior to submission as evidence. So, after a series of arrest and release on bail, all on grounds of sedition, the police raided the office again. This time even scanning computers and everything they can find there. However, they left the place empty-handed AGAIN.
That incident just reminds me once when we suspected one of our prefects leaked info to his/her classmates. our suspicion began when we presumed that this particular class has all the illegal stuff we can imagine of, but when checked, we left empty-handed. Then the same reasoning process takes place, and by flashback of events, we found that the prefect in that class was acting unusual prior to the spot check, so we interrogated him/her and concluded info leaked. So, we did a 2nd round of spot check after recess, but still was futile. Of course, we couldn't charge the prefect for leaked info, because of lack of evidence. Nevertheless, we warned sternly and let him/her off the hook with a disappointed and frustrated heart. Same shit, different smell. My prefect days. hahahahaha....
So, now, back to my main story. Empty-handed again!!!!???? GARRRRRrrr....I know somewhere behind my mind that they made very seditious claimssss!!!! I must leash out my frustration and dissapointment! ahah! of course! our trump card - ISA.... So it is...the 5 were detained.
Of course, they did not invoke ISA blindly or without strategy. Look at the flow of events, especially on mainstream media. starting with PM's threat to invoke ISA, it was followed by the IGP's baseless claims of Hindraf's linked to terrorists, hence threat to national security, and seditious claims made. if we look through all the allegations made by the government against Hindraf, I am yet to read any evidences materialized to confirm these allegations. All they have is "I know they ..." or "we have info that they ..." Can they produce them in court please? Why detention without trial? No evidence izzit.... Well, of course PM also made statements that he put security above freedom. Dear PM, abolishing freedom is threatening security. When an individual has no sense or assurance of their own freedom, do they feel secure? basically is this, most rape victims do not feel secure, because their fear has clamped down their freedom to move about, the moment they move about freely against their fear, insecurity and paranoia may take over, is there security for that individual? Take this example to a marginalized group. Let's just apply it to the Malays, since the government fight so much for the NEP. the Malays freely express their needs to excel in society and get a bigger pie in equity ownership. their plight was heard as they freely expressed them, and now they feel that their positions are secured. Imagine if the government of those days shut them up and throw them in prison via ISA, the 1st thing is that comes to mind is this "Malaysia is not a safe place for me anymore, others are robbing me of my wealth and well being in this country." do they feel secure? Heck no. Dear PM, robbing our freedom = threatening our security.
Of course my story is hypothetical of what goes on in the mind of those who invoked ISA upon the 5 hindraf leaders. and the side stories of my prefect life just confirm how ugly i was myself... I just hope i could turn back time and change things... oh well, time to move on anyway. Good thing we have no parallel ISA in school, otherwise we'll see alot more disciplinary actions taken by the teachers.
Tak Nak! to ISA once more.
My prayer is that God will give a chance to our authorities to uphold justice in this land. Nevertheless, the end point I hope is justice prevails.

The Mother of All Draconian Laws.....
source: malaysiawatch3
As reported in malaysiakini, the HINDRAF five are being detained under the ISA, the most draconian laws we allowed our MPs to pass in Parliament without much debate as usual.
Using the ISA to check the HINDRAF leaders is like using nuclear weapons to eliminate a rag and bones army and the fall-out will affect innocent lives.
It seems the top leaders are not thinking with much foresight and we know that the problems highlighted by the HINDRAF group have been known for some years. Ordinary Malaysians too must take some of the blame for perhaps many of us were too busy with our own problems to look at the problems facing other groups in our society.
Now it has come to the ISA something I feel should only be used with proper checks and balances. Our present laws would have made Saddam Hussein proud as it is really too powerful be be left unchecked in the hands of two or three men.
Based on the article from the Star, these are the main points:
Under Section 73 (1) of the ISA, the police can detain any individual for up to 60 days without a warrant, trial and without access to legal counsel if he was suspected to have “acted or is about to act or is likely to act in any manner prejudicial to the security of Malaysia or any part thereof or to maintenance of essential services therein or to the economic life thereof."
After 60 days, the Minister of Home Affairs can extend the period of detention without trial for up to two years, without submitting any evidence for review by the courts, by issuing a detention order, which is renewable indefinitely.
You will note the following:
Police can detain you for 60 days without warrant, no access to a lawyer just based on a suspicion.
After 60 days detention, you can be detained for 2 years without trial just with the signature of the Minister without the courts knowing anything about your case. In other words, you become a prisoner of the Minister without any state institution even looking at the facts of the case.
Now comes the killer blow. The detention order can be renewed indefinitely.
It is a sobering to realise that we celebrate our 50th year of nationhood with the application of such a law.
Remember the Guildford four? They were imprisoned in the UK on suspicion of links with the Irish terrorists but were found innocent after many years. Maybe the HINDRAF five may become similar heroes in ASEAN.
I pray that we are not creating our own terrorists with the use of such draconian laws.

MALAYSIA PUSAT DANA PENGGANAS?

MUFLIS BERTAMBAH?

dipetik: ringan-ringan.blogspot.
Aku berangan sebentar. Alangkah baiknya jika aku menjadi Pemuda Umno Bahagian Jerai (kawasan tempat mengundi aku). Kata mereka, senang masa depan.
Nasib baik baru beli tonik rambut!

DOLLAH CERITA PASAL TAMAK KUASA?
Hehhhe

Heal thyself
NO HOLDS BARRED
I would like to suggest to the Agong and the Rulers that they just sit back and do nothing. Why should the Agong and the Rulers take the trouble to sort out this nation’s problems? If 12 million Malaysians voted for the ruling coalition or refuse to vote or refuse to register to vote then we three million Malaysians who voted for the opposition, plus the Agong and the Rulers, should not be pressured into correcting what was not our doing in the first place.
Let the government extend the tenure of the Chairman of the Elections Commission beyond his retirement age. Let the government appoint the Umno lawyer as the next Chief Justice of Malaysia. Let the government gerrymander the electoral boundaries so that all the ruling party needs is 50% of the votes and still rule with a two-thirds majority. Let the government set up a Mickey Mouse Royal Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Lingam Tape. Let the government stifle dissent and free speech and arrest all those who participate in ‘illegal assemblies’ and detain the leaders and organisers under the Internal Security Act. Let the government come out with religious decrees or fatwahs declaring Buddhist statues as haram and which should be banned. Let churches and temples be demolished and non-Islamic religious symbols removed from missionary schools. Let the ruling party Members of Parliament scold the non-Malays and ask them to go back to China or India if they are not happy with this country. Let the government abuse its authority and power and misuse our funds on grandiose and wasteful projects.
