malaysianinsider - [...] Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) has stopped talks with Umno on a possible collaboration in deference to its allies in the nascent Pakatan Rakyat coalition that is ruling five states.
The PAS central committee met last week and agreed by a majority to stop the talks although party president Datuk Abdul Hadi Awang had indicated a willingness to collaborate with any party committed to maintaining strong Muslim leadership in Malaysia.
"The central committee thought it was a waste of time and energy to pursue the talks," a PAS senior official told The Malaysian Insider.

• Committed to maintaining a strong Muslim leadership.
• Fair to all Malaysians regardless of race and religion.
• Committed to ensuring that Islam was the basis of unity among the Malays and fairness and justice was the basis of unity among other races.
In the days after the March 8 general election, Malay non-governmental organisations have been urging PAS and Umno to put aside their different ideologies and come together to protect the Malays and Islam. They have been uneasy over the future of Malay political power, noting that the Chinese and Indians appear to be more vocal and demanding after Election 2008.... selanjutnya.
