Star | The backbenchers who flew to Taiwan on Monday for an agricultural study trip are coming back sooner than expected.
However, Backbenchers Club chairman Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing claimed this was not due to the presence of PKR leaders who themselves flew out to Taiwan on Friday afternoon.
“Our study trip was scheduled to end on Sept 13 or 14. It is now up to the MPs to decide whether they want to extend their stay in Taiwan, go home to Malaysia or go elsewhere. “In fact, on Sept 9, 11 MPs went back to Malaysia. The trip was never meant to last until Sept 17,” he said when contacted in Taiwan.
Tiong said the original dates of Sept 7 to 19 for the study trip only indicated a “window of opportunity” for the MPs’ journey.
“I know the PKR members will say that we are running away from them because we won’t be here when they get into Taiwan.
“But this is not true. Our schedule was fixed from Day One and at that time, we didn’t know they would be here.
“In fact, it is a childish move for PKR to send their members here. They should not be so arrogant and look down on us,” he said.... selanjutnya.
