PETALING JAYA, MALAYSIA: The Democratic Action Party (DAP) challenges Datuk Seri Chia Kwang Chye to a debate on state-owned television channels.
DAP also welcomed the remarks of Deputy Minister of Information Chia Kwang Chye that the government will not suppress the media during the general elections.
DAP said in an official statement that the party hopes Chia will match words with deeds to allow political debates on state-owned television and radio, so that the people can understand both the ruling and opposition parties better.
In the statement, DAP said even though Malaysia has held 11 elections, there was no fair media exposure all the while. It was very difficult for opposition parties to advertise on television, radio and newspapers during elections.
DAP insists that freedom of the press is the elementary right should be enjoyed by the people. The National Front coalition has the power to deprive the opposition of the right to have media campaign during elections. (Sin Chew Daily)
