Anwar expands repertoire in Malacca ceramahs

malaysianinsider | A day after being released from questioning into a sodomy complaint, opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim took to the road with an expanded repertoire to light up the political ceramah circuit.

The former deputy prime minister reiterated his call to slash fuel prices and spoke of his plans to run for a parliamentary seat, the expected crossover of Barisan Nasional MPs to Pakatan Rakyat and the old and fresh alleged mistreatment at the hands of the police.

Anwar's first stop was in the Chinese-majority area of Cheng in the ancient port city of Malacca where the crowd cheered him with shouts of "Reformasi" and "Lawan Tetap Lawan" as he made his case for a change of government.

He is restarting his nationwide tour to convince the people that there are some 30 MPs willing to cross from BN which suffered its worst performance in the March 8 general election, losing its two-thirds parliamentary majority and four more states to the opposition.

He told the crowd that the BN acted to sabotage his electoral plans when they got wind that four BN MPs, two each from Sabah and Peninsular Malaysia, were to defect to his Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

Anwar, who denied the latest sodomy claims by a former male aide, also said he was not afraid of providing his DNA samples to the authorities but feared possible fabrication of evidence. Police arrested him for questioning into the latest sodomy accusation, the second such allegation in a decade.

But he stuck to the script common to all his ceramahs as the crowd lapped up his speech. The police too stuck to the script by setting up a roadblock near the venue and moved in to stop him five minutes into his speech at a private house in Cheng.

Balik Pulau MP Yusmadi Yusoff and another PKR leader, Badrul Hisham Shaharin, had to negotiate with the police and managed to persuade the police to leave the venue. ... selanjutnya.
