A FERVENT supporter of Malaysia's ruling coalition Barisan Nasional (BN) was gunned down outside his Perak home on Thursday.
The 52-year-old Indian businessman was taking his child to school and had just left his home at about 7am when he was ambushed, reported Guang Ming Daily News.
Two men arrived on a motorcycle, shouted his name and fired three shots at him.
The man is seriously injured and doctors are fighting to save his life.
About 300 relatives and friends visited him in hospital. Among them was Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Agro-Based Industry and BN member Mah Siew Keong.
He told Guang Ming Daily News afterwards that he heard from the police that the man was hit by one bullet in the abdomen.
He added that the police were not sure of the motive behind the attack and said he hoped it was not related to the election.
'He has helped organise BN activities before and is a strong supporter of our party,' said Mr Mah.
'We wish him a speedy recovery.'
