JAKARTA, Jan. 2 (Xinhua) -- Former Indonesian ambassador to Malaysia Hadi Wayarabi Alhadar was found guilty Wednesday of graft and sentenced to 2.5 years in jail along with a close aide.
The former envoy and former immigration office head of the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia, Suparba Amiarsa, was convicted of illegally collecting fees from applicants of immigration documents during a hearing at the anti-graft court in Central Jakarta.
"We pronounce that first defendant Hadi Wayarabi and second defendant Suparba Amiarsa are convincingly guilty of the acts of corruption," presiding judge Mansyurdin Chaniago told the court.
The two have illegally raised tariffs on immigration documents but handed much smaller amount of revenues to the state treasurers, the court heard.
The acts have inflicted a loss of 15 billion rupiah (1.59 million U.S. dollars) to the state.
The court also ordered Hadi to repay 1.75 billion rupiah (186,031 dollars) and Suparba 900 million rupiah (95,673 dollars) to compensate for the loss, or their jail terms are added by two years.
