thestar - [...] A single mother claimed trial at Sessions Court here for attempting to bribe a government officer from Putrajaya to avoid action against her business premise.
Chu Mui Ling, 35, was charged Monday for offering RM8,000 to Hashim Mohd Daud, an assistant enforcement officer of the Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Ministry, as an inducement not to take action against her during a check at her business premise.
Chu, who was involved in the sale of DVDs, is accused of offering the bribe when the officer checked her premises at Lot E16, 6th Floor, CPS Tower, and Centre Point Sabah at about 5.35pm on Feb 1, this year.
Deputy Public prosecutor Joyce Blasius did not object to the accused being granted bail but suggested for RM8,000 bail with one surety.
However, her counsel Zahir Shah Hussein asked that the bail amount be reduced to RM5,000 with one surety as Chu, a local, is the mother of three school-going children.
