malaysianinsider - [...] PARLIAMENT June 24 - Today's restrictions on media access in Parliament was ordered by Datuk Nazri Mohd Aziz, minister in the Prime Minister's Department, a Barisan Nasional backbencher told The Malaysian Insider.
"Nazri directed Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia to give the orders and the speaker conceded," the backbencher told The Malaysian Insider over lunch in Parliament on condition of anonymity.
The media turned up in Parliament today and were barricaded from meeting lawmakers and ministers at the lobby outside the Dewan Rakyat except during lunch break. They were also restricted to the cafetaria, media room, a media conference area and the speaker's office. Political aides and press secretaries were also barred from issuing printed statements to the media.
Some reporters have decided to boycott all media activities in Parliament except for the meetings inside the chamber. Those affected include an Opposition media conference on the Kuala Lumpur Draft Plan at lunchtime and a possible news conference by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Abdul Razak this afternoon.... selanjutnya.
