RTM Stops Video Clip On Anwar Ibrahim
SUNGAI PETANI, Feb 22 (Bernama) -- Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) has stopped airing the video clip on the demeanours of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) advisor (PKR) Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim beginning last night.
Information Minister Datuk Seri Zainuddin Maidin said the decision to stop showing the video clip followed the protest made by a group of PAS members.
He said RTM had received a memorandum from the group led by PAS Central Committee member Dr Lo'Lo' Mohd Ghazali and had given appropriate consideration in stopping the airing of the video clip.
"Besides receiving the memorandum, we had stopped the showing of the video clip because we believe the people had seen it and knew about the various demeanours of the opposition party advisor," he told reporters after attending a `tahlil' at Masjid Bedong, near here today.
The video clip showed Anwar's demeanours in delivering sermons at the mosques as well as showing him performing his singing and dancing skills.
Zainuddin said, however, the video clips showing the violence occurring at street demonstrations would be shown until the nomination day.
"After the nomination day, we will not use the television to show all his demeanours because the people had already seen them," he said.
He said PAS should not be angry at the showing of the video clips because staging street demonstrations was one of the activities carried out by the party.
"We only show what they want and PAS itself supports the street demonstrations," he said.
Zainuddin said almost 90 per cent of the viewers, especially the Chinese community, were angry at the demonstrations which they described as inconveniencing the public.
