MPS wants apology over RM500,000 expenditure claim, The Star (Feb 18, 2008)
THE Seremban Municipal Council (MPS) has denied PAS and Parti Keadilan Rakyat claims that it spent RM500,000 on buntings and banners during Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's recent visit to the state and has demanded an apology within seven days.
MPS secretary Ali Luman said the two parties should also carry an apology in the mainstream media as their allegations had tarnished the council’s reputation.
Ali said the council spent RM3,586 to put up three banners along Jalan Dato’ Muda Linggi, Jalan Sungai Ujong and Jalan Penghulu Cantik to welcome Najib during his two-day working visit on Jan 24 and 25.
He also denied a claim by the parties that the council did not charge the state Barisan Nasional Youth for using the MPS Hall in Jalan Yam Tuan on Feb 10.
The hall was used for the launching of the state Barisan Youth’s election machinery by its chief Datuk Seri Hishammuddin Tun Hussein.
Ali, however, did not say what action MPS would take if the parties failed to apologise within a week.
