Less than a week after the Opposition camps swept to an unprecedented win in a few states in the GE 2008, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang turned into unruly behavior with regarding to the appointment of the new Perak MB by the Regent of Perak Raja Nazrin Shah.
I think it’s very rude for him to snub the decision made by Raja Nazrin, given that prior to the appointment, Perak DAP chairperson and Sitiawan state assemblyperson Ngeh Khoo Ham, who spoke for the coalition, told reporters that all three parties would unanimously respect the decision of the sultan and cooperate to form the new state government.
Hence, when names of three nominees,, each from DAP, PKR and PAS respectively were submitted to Raja Nazrin, I thought the coalition has made the right choice as Raja Nazrin has been a respected ruler by every level of society and popular of always taking a fair and impartial stance on various issues.
Now, the decision has been made by the Palace that Pasir Panjang state assemblyperson and Perak PAS secretary Mohamad Nizar Jamaludin was confirmed as the new MB of the state.
The outburst by Kit Siang in such a disgraceful manner is really uncalled for, given that the appointment of the MB is the prerogative of the sultan alone. Worse, his decision to call upon DAP Perak Assemblymen to stay away from the swearing-in ceremony for Perak MB scheduled tomorrow is turning the Perak’s political landscape into turmoil and merely providing more opportunities for the Opposition in the states, which happened to the BN component parties to capitalize on this unfortunate event.
For the sake of the fellow Perak-ian who have entrusted the Opposition pact to form the next State government, I strongly urge Kit Siang to do the right thing by quickly retracting the irresponsible statement as well as apologize to Raja Nazrin for his unruly behavior, in which subsequently will provide a clear passageway for the formation of next State Government and get down to work immediately.
Any further delay is going to be a disaster for the Opposition pact, as well as the Perak-ian who casted their votes for the Opposition.
On additional note, since Opposition has gained inroad in this GE 2008, I think it’s an admirable achievement as this is the first time where the Barisan Nasional (BN) suffered the heaviest defeat ever since 1969, hence it’s appropriate and also it’s time for Kit Siang to take a backseat, rather than being seen as a dictator who continue to dictate the party’s future.
