State-owned cars ’will not be sold to outgoing officials’

KUALA LUMPUR: Menteris besar, chief ministers and state executive councillors in Selangor, Perak, Penang and Kedah can no longer look forward to buying their official cars when they leave office.
All state-owned cars, which are traditionally marked down and sold upon departure to these officials, will instead be used by other elected representatives or officials.
PKR vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah, said this would be the policy of all state governments run by the PKR-Pas-DAP coalition.
He also assured those in local councils and state civil service that there would be no major staff shake-up.
“The opposition coalition is keen on an orderly transition. Only the top managers of local authorities like the mayors and the presidents will be replaced.”
“We don’t want to spend a single ringgit on renovation, new buildings and facelifts,” said the 52-year-old lawyer who won the Subang state seat against BN-MIC rookie, S. Murugesan.
On the election of local councillors, Sivarasa said they will discuss this with the Election Commission.
