malaysiatoday - A little chaos ruled the Dewan Rakyat sitting Thursday when a sudden motion tabled by Teo Nie Ching (DAP-Serdang) to discuss the Grand Saga road closure issue in Bandar Mahkota Cheras, was rejected. Teo said since the road closure issue had caused several incidents, including an attack on a media photographer, it should be discussed by the Dewan Rakyat.
"The issue has been prolonging and someone was beaten up because of that. So, this matter should be debated in this august House because it is of public concern," he said before the committee-level debate on the Supplementary Supply Bill (2007) 2008, resumed Thursday.
Earlier, Teo received a rejection note for the issue he raised in the Dewan Rakyat last Tuesday.
Deputy Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar said there was no need for the matter to be discussed because it was currently a court case, and it would be an offence for the House to delve into it.
"The decision was made based on a strong reason. The law forbids that, so don't argue anymore. I don't care who agrees or not, it's their personal opinion and you don't have to stand anymore, Yang Berhormat Serdang," he said.
At that moment, M. Kulasegaran (DAP-Ipoh Barat) stood up and read Point 18 of the parliamentary Standing Order, which states that a matter can be discussed if there are 15 members of the House supporting it.
