bernama - The Kelantan government yesterday welcomed the federal government's decision to abolish the Federal Development Department in Sabah, and hoped that a similar decision would be made in the case of PAS-ruled Kelantan as well.
Kelantan Local Government, Tourism and Culture Committee chairman Datuk Takiyuddin Hassan said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi must have had strong reasons for fulfilling Sabah's demand for the abolition of the department.
"With the abolition, development projects can be implemented more smoothly and faster.
"We hope the same decision can be made in the case of Kelantan because the establishment of the department had caused an overlap of authority," he told reporters after officiating the closing of a monkey-plucking-coconut competition here in conjunction with Visit Kelantan Year 2008.
While acknowledging the role of the department in the development of the state, Takiyuddin said there was much delay in channelling financial allocations to the housing division and local authorities. ─
