They are demanding RM2.778 billion from the state government as compensation for acquiring three parcels totalling 1,653ha, which include parts of Majidee Camp.
Other areas affected by the claim include Kampung Melayu Majidee, Bandar Baru Uda, the Polo Club, and land where the Johor Baru City Council and Customs and Excise Department are located.
Apart from the compensation and the return of parts of the land, the plaintiffs are also seeking a declaration that Ungku Majid was the rightful owner of the land, whose rights were discarded by the state government.
They claim that between 1881 and 1885, the then state government had conveyed three grants to the late Ungku Majid, giving him ownership and title of the property in perpetuity.
In their affidavit, the plaintiffs stated that following Ungku Majid’s death in 1889, the state government gave the land to one John Armstrong, who in turn transferred it to Majidee (Johor) Rubber Estates Limited, a company incorporated in England, in June 1910.... selanjutnya.
