Big rush in Kuala Lumpur to fill up

malaysiainisider - Teacher Mohd Fauzi Ahmad, 30, had received an SMS telling of a petrol price hike as early as 4pm today.

He didn't give it much thought until after 6pm when a friend told him the rumour was true. Pak Lah had just made the announcement in Putrajaya that the petrol price was going up from RM1.92 per litre to RM2.70.

By then, it was too late. He was already part of the instantaneous massive queue that had formed outside petrol stations nationwide following the Prime Minister's statement.

"My full tank usually costs about RM70. This is going to be a big burden," said Fauzi , married with children.

Although his three-year-old Hyundai Getz was not quite empty — the pumped stopped at RM66 — he was seen rocking his car sideways in the hope that he could squeeze a few more squirts of fuel inside.
