Home Ministry vows to go after land-grab culprits

malaysiainsider - [...] "Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Tan Sri Bernand Dompok told me about the ongoing probe by the Public Complaints Bureau (PCB) over the case. If the allegations are true then the officers concerned will face severe action.

"The ministry wants an explanation from the police and we guarantee a fair investigation...nobody is above the law," he said after opening the "Bali Process Workshop on People Smuggling: Threat Assessment and Risk Analysis" today.

He said the police and other related parties should give their fullest cooperation to the Anti-Corruption Agency (ACA) and PCB in their investigation.

In April, Bernama reported that a top-ranking law enforcement officer, who is a "datuk", and police officers in Kunak were being investigated by the Sabah Anti-Corruption Agency for allegedly offering "protection services" to a real estate company which allegedly seized 787 hectares (about 4,000 acres) of oil palm land belonging to smallholders.

It was also reported that the company concerned had employed more than 100 illegal immigrants who doubled as thugs to seize the land worth about RM40 million, and more than 40 police reports were lodged between January and March this year at the Kunak police station, but no action followed.... selanjutnya.
