MOSQUE OFFICIALS IN S’GOR IN FOR A WINDFALL
SHAH ALAM, Feb 9 (Bernama) — The Selangor government will allocate RM200 million from this year to raise allowances for mosque officials throughout the state.
Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohamad Khir Toyo it was the state’s way of recognising them for the good work they had done.
“The allowances were are giving mosque officials is actually more of a consolation for looking after mosques in the state. When we have more, we will increase their allowances further,” he told reporters after holding a meeting with mosque officials from throughout Selangor here today.
With the move, the allowance of heads of mosque management committees will be increased from RM100 to RM200 a month while the deputy head and treasurer, who now do not get any, will be given RM100. Mosque secretaries’ allowance is also being increased from RM60 to RM100.
However, the officials were warned that they would be sacked if they allowed political ceramahs (talks) to held at mosques or suraus in the state.
“It does not matter whether the talks involve Umno, PAS or PKR (Parti Keadilan Rakyat). If political ceramahs are held in any mosque or surau in Selangor, the management committee head will be sacked instantly,” said Mohd Khir.
On another matter, Mohd Khir said the Hulu Selangor District Council (MDHS) and the Hulu Selangor Land and District Council, which were given “broom awards” last November for inept performance, had shown vast improvements in efficiency in collecting taxes.
