SHAH ALAM: Selangor PAS has dropped five parliamentary and five state seats from the list of areas that it will contest in the general elections.
It will, however, now contest one parliamentary seat and five state seats formerly contested by candidates from PKR.
PAS will give up its Sabak Bernam, Puchong, Hulu Selangor, Gombak and Pandan parliamentary seats as well as the Bukit Melawati, Semenyih, Seri Setia, Taman Medan and Dengkil state seats.
It will take over the Kuala Selangor parliamentary seat and the Hulu Klang, Cempaka, Dusun Tua, Seri Serdang and Paya Jaras state seats from PKR.
State PAS commissioner Datuk Dr Hasan Mohamed Ali said the party would contest seven parliamentary and 20 state seats instead of the 10 parliamentary and 20 state seats it contested in the 2004 general elections.
He said the party decided to reduce its numbers after negotiating the seats with PKR. The move is hoped to help the Opposition win more seats in the state.
The new line-up sees only 12 incumbents retained for the 27 seats the party is contesting.
