Is It A Rousing Start?

JUST a brief comment to start with.

According to Bernama, the Prime Minister, Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, led the Barisan Nasional (BN) to a rousing start on the nomination day, Feb. 24.

That rousing start, according to Bernama was the coalition winning seven parliamentary and two state seats when nominations closed.

What Bernama didn’t do was to compare that with the 2004 nomination day when the BN won 17 parliamentary seats and 12 state assembly seats.

And in almost all constituencies the BN is facing straight fights with one of the three opposition parties namely Pas, the DAP and PKR.

So the opposition pact may not be “syok-syok sahaja” (just for fun) as the Prime Minister choose to describe it.

In fact the BN must view the opposition pact – brokered by PKR – as being more serious than just “syok-syok sahaja.” I think oppositions are serious.

And where I was in Pahang yesterday for the nomination, the BN people that I spoke to were worried.
