KOTA KINABALU: Sabah MCA’s Chinese New Year open house proved to be a special affair for the state’s Chinese community, with Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting announcing generous ang pow for three secondary schools.
The schools – Tshung Tsin Secondary School, Kian Kok Middle School and Kota Kinabalu High School – will receive a special federal government grant of RM100,000 each.
“These ang pows were personally approved by the Prime Minister,” the MCA president said to the applause of the thousands of people who attended the open house at the Kota Kinabalu High School hall.
Among those present were Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman, the Sabah Umno chairman, and leaders of other state Barisan component parties.
He said he sought the special allocations from Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi following a request from Sabah MCA chairman Datuk Edward Khoo, the Assistant Minister to the Chief Minister and Kepayan state assemblyman.
Ong said Sabah’s development was now on the right footing under Musa’s leadership.
“This is why I am urging the Chinese community in Sabah to give their wholehearted support to Barisan.
“With this support, Barisan can continue its development agenda for the state,” he added.
