Malaysian stocks fall amid uncertainty

KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - Malaysia's benchmark stock index fell 4.1 percent Monday amid political uncertainty sparked by the ruling coalition's electoral losses over the weekend.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index opened at 1,242.64 points, sharply down from Friday's close of 1,296.33, after Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's National Front lost its two-thirds parliamentary majority in Saturday's general elections.

Investors say shares of companies closely linked to the National Front face selling pressure amid concerns about the election's impact on government projects and economic policies.
