karpalsingh.net - BUKIT Gelugor MP Karpal Singh is fuming that his sentiments against the reinstatement of Perak Religious Department director Mohamad Jamry Sury has been labelled anti-royalty. The DAP leader said he did not wish to prolong the matter, adding that several politicians were trying to make a racial issue out of a legal issue. Stressing that he did not doubt that the Sultan of Perak, together with all other Rulers in the country, was the head as far as religion and Malay customs were concerned, he said: “The Sultan, however, has no jurisdiction when it comes to the state’s administration. A distinction has to be made here and I must reiterate that I have in no way insulted the Sultan.
He was also surprised that Umno backbenchers were making an issue out of his question to Datuk Seri Ong Ka Ting (BN - Kulai). Karpal Singh had asked Ong whether his motion of thanks on the royal address was prepared by the Government. “Because if it were so, it would seem like the Government is thanking itself, no? This, in no way, shows that I have insulted Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, as the backbenchers have implied. I’m surprised that they are making an issue of this,” he added.
