sun2surf - (...) Two men were arrested by police today for pelting highway workers with stones during a protest Bandar Mahkota Cheras residents against the closure of a toll-free access road from their area to the Kajang-Cheras Highway.
The protest has been an ongoing issue over the last four years after the highway concessionaire closed the access road built by a housing developer.
On April 21, the residents took the law into their own hands by removing the concrete barricades with the use of heavy machinery.
Today, about 500 residents gathered at the site again to protest against the re-barricading of the access road by workers in the evening in the presence of dozens of policemen who were there to ensure that no untoward incidents occurred.
However, when the workers went to work, they were pelted with stones by several people in the crowd.
"Our intention was not to use any force. We we there to ensure the safety of the workers who were only doing their job. There was no need for this," said Kajang police chief ACP Shakaruddin Che Mood.
